Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I thought it was just me but review here says the same thing: The steering wheel is huge on the mk7 gti. I like the mk6 gti/r steering wheel 'coz the diameter is smallish.

Can't say I'd really noticed the wheel.. I guess it looks bigger in the pics, suppose would need to judge in reality.

Seems like multiple sources are now suggesting PP will follow down the track, we can cancel the petition lol.

I'm optimistic about it, since my GTI wheel blocks the view of the top of the speedo and MFD when adjusted for best driving position, meaning I can't see what gear I'm in when using paddles or see my analog speed beyond 70kph

Move your seat height slightly then which may allow you to alter wheel to allow you to see the necessary instumentnts

Have tried all that, if I change the seat height I just end up wanting to change the wheel height again, plus advanced driver training recommend a lower seat position.

Well I had to fiddle mine to what I wouldnt normally have as I am tall and if I had seat at my usual driving position the mirror was in my field of vision so had to lower seat and alter wheel to suit. What is recommended is not always what works best and after all we are not racing drivers who need everything perfect........................or are we.

No not racing, but it's so much easier to steer (and therefore swerve and avoid) in that seating position.

This review seems to suggest the performance pack will come, just later on. There would be no reason other than marketing to hold it back so hopefully we get it as soon as possible

If VW is dragging AUstralian journalists to the Austrian alps to drive Golf GTIs with the PP you would hazard a guess that it will be coming to Australia... no?

It will be coming to Oz, but for some stupid reason not straight away!

Maybe as part of the Adidas/Ed35 version as they got cained for asking a lot more for no extra power.

In the meantime you could just get a Stage 1 ecu tune.

Don't know about everyone else but I don't think many care about the extra 10bhp of the PE. It's the ediff mainly - the extra power is probably only there to offset the extra weight of the ediff, bigger brakes/wheels, etc. Would look a bit stupid if the PE was slower to 100 than the regular GTI.

But how much difference with the e-diff really make.
They introduced EDL/XDL in the Mk6 and it wasn't as good as the Haldex which wasn't as good as the Quattro so there is only so much better they can go with it.

Also, there is only going to be a very small minorty who would actually see/feel the benefit of the new diff when it's pushed on a track.

One thing I'm concerned about with the e-diff is that someone from VW said it could only handle 184 KW, that's a bit of a concern for anyone thinking of tuning it.

I guess we will have to wait and see what the tuners do overseas, and here if we do end up getting it
