      Pre-orders
After phoning all Brisbane dealerships I have been told that there are no pre-orders being taken. There are, however, 'Waiting Lists' which seem to be these flimsy, "Um...well...we can put you on this list for $1000 and you'll be first in line to get the car you want."

The amount of people on a dealership's waiting list (and each dealer has their own, even if they are part of a group) seems to vary depending on the salesperson, with the junior salesman telling me they didn't have anyone on the waiting list and then the sleazy senior manager telling me they had three names and that I should hand him the money then and there.

If you miss out on the first batch, you can order when they launch and there's a 6 month wait. I pressed them that maybe it's a 3 to 6 month build wait (like other manufacturers - specifically Mercedes) and they insisted that next order is 6 month wait.

From all accounts, October is earliest, but November is likeliest.

Estimated numbers per dealership and options
Naturally the Brisbane market is a lot smaller than Syd/Mel, but it looks like the stock will range from about 5-6 for the smaller dealerships to 10-15 for the larger dealerships on first run.

I've heard Red, Black and White. No one has mentioned blue, grey or silver.

No dealer expects to get the Performance Pack on the first run and most don't expect Australia to get the Performance Pack ever, considering Australia's climate and lack of autobahns.

      New Zealand Launch
Not sure if anyone was aware of this, but New Zealand launched the GTi today and you can see specs here. They are only getting DSG models.

Some of the rubbish that I've heard
      - The new GTi has the MK6 Golf R engines in them and the new GTi does 188kw
      - "True story": The Mercedes launch of the A250 was held in an aircraft hangar and they crashed two of their cars in front of all press because the radar technology behind ACC was blocked (Would like to know if this one is true?)
      - International launch date is August 1st and VW are flying "sleazy manager" over for the launch.
      - Kevin Rudd changed Fringe Benefits Tax and now I have to pay GST on my new GTi...

If anyone has better information, please share. If anyone can correct me, please do.
Thanks Mick, plenty of good info there!

Thanks for posting that, interesting stuff, particularly the NZ specs (no std xenons or discover pro - could that bode poorly for us?)

I've preordered loosely through a mate (it's essentially an placeholder order that is actually in as a mk 6). I've specced it based on the rumours of std equipment etc, so far, and the idea is that i will finalise the order and tweak if necessary when the details of the Australian car become known
So where is our friend Golf 7, if this is anything is going looks like we have had more wrong or miss information

First cars arriving next week in Australia! And no PP on them... Such a sad, sad thing that we're not getting the the "REAL" GTI. I'll keep pestering them like all the other media outlets here are, hopefully they'll budge. Mind you Anke was completely different to John, she cared about enthusiasts, (her crusade to get the Scirocco), John has too many PR disaster issues on his mind, the Golf is not selling as well as expected and the brand image has taken a MASSIVE hit.

As soon as I get the official specs, I'll put them up ASAP.

Good luck finding one of those.
They are usually 60km/h if not lower.

You could always get a tune and turn up the XDL setting.

The white in question is a special metallic version.

Yeah a disaster he pretty much inherited thanks to Anke. Where was Anke this entire time this DSG circus was brewing? (Patting fanboys at the back?)

So, is the electronic differential a part of the Performance Pack, i.e., we ain't getting that either?

This article suggests that the pp will be available in Oz from 2014: Drive - VW Golf GTI Performance Review

                        Sounds plausible to me.

                        • Alright, what I can confirm is this. They have decided against the PP, hence no trick electronic diff. Secondly, the GTI will come in under 40k. We will get the electronic handbrake. No word yet on xenons, sat nav units officially. What I can say is that they want to differentiate the GTI from the R. Still have no idea what is going to happen with the 19 PP equipped GTIs heading downunder in the second shipment. None of all this makes sense, we want the real GTI, without the PP, we will forever be subconsciously thinking of how the car could have been better... Us journos are really at their throats now... Oh and there should be 3 GTIs on Aussie roads now near Sydney, they'll be in our final spec. Keep your eyes wide open! Vwa are taking photos of them for their materials.

A GTI under 40K would be welcome... stuff the xenons, sat nav etc etc.

LOL... oh please. Those journos (SMH for one) who on one hand praise a car then on the other have no qualms stabbing the knife into the brand. Most journos should keep their mouths shut and be lucky they get cars to drive round for FREE.
Much like politicians they live in an unreal world.

                            • No problem with having a base GTI under 40k, but even so if you tick a bunch of option boxes you'd expect to head north of 50k anyway, so why not make the ediff one of those options when every car review so far is telling buyers to spend the extra on the PP.

Given that the new S3 is 11k cheaper and they need to fit a Golf R under that price I can sort of see their dilemma. Guess there will be a lot more R owners this time around, bad news is the extra long wait.
