  • Also the diff reportedly has a low tolorance to additional power (about 50bhp I think), but that's not necessarily the same as the 'harsh climate' line. I think the climate thing is a cop out anyway if that's used as an excuse - no GTIs will end up in the desert and our summers are no warmer than the US anyway, and they'll get it

      • I'm back from quite a long time away from the forums! Well, we are getting the Performance Pack, that's settled. The second shipment of cars that left Germany a few weeks back bound for Oz had the PP fitted. They will get here but the PP will only be found on the cars from the second batch.

        • Australian VW Golf GTI Specification Speculation

So what's the pricing like for the PP? What's the standard spec?

          Color MFD?
          8" Discover Pro?
          Adaptive Chassis Control?
          Bixenon?
          18" rims?

is Dynaudio available as an option?

I have no idea on the pricing ATM, all I know is that we WILL be getting the PP... On the second shipment...

I'm not sure I believe this baloney about the LSD having low tolerance to additional power. Thats what they said about the dsg only 350NM of torque? Ha. People have run 550nm through it with no probs. Its just scaremongering to prevent people from tuning their cars and trying to claim warranty.

                • What about the 250nm limit they mentioned on the DQ200? I can run APR (320nm) on it but I have to be careful too - too much load at low RPM or shifting under high load at the wrong RPM and you can hear the clutch pack complaining.

That is exactly right... Oh and speaking of press cars, its funny how the so called 90TSI I had was producing over 108kW at the wheels on the dyno... Badge swapping maybe? It was identical to the base 90TSI on sale here, but went pretty darn quick, it was closer to the old 118TSI than the 90TSI in the Mk6 that's for sure...

Hmmm.. i would have thought all the Aus road tests of the GTI would have been written before the actual release date and way before the second shipment arrives.

Can you provide more details here please? That's a mighty big call, Golf7. 108fwkw on a standard dyno likely equates to well over 120kw at the flywheel. On a car rated at 90kw at the flywheel, that's over a 33% increase. I smell a rat.
                          • Was this vehicle supplied by VW as an unmodified press car?
                          • Which dyno was the vehicle measured on? (Workshop, and/or make and model of dyno - eg Dyno Dynamics)
                          • Do you have access to the dyno printout?
                          • Who (member of the press? Yourself?) had the vehicle dynoed?
                          • What was Volkswagen's response to the claims (if any)?

The GTI is fast, but safe & sensible. A bit concerning it is becoming less fun to drive, but nice to own.

                            Cheers.

Just got off the phone with them, apparently the car was a 103TSI but in Base spec, (I know right? Try getting your heads around that one...) It was one of their early evaluation feasibility vehicles that they added onto the press fleet. So it had the 103TSI engine in 90TSI spec... We just went to a normal workshop in Sydney and saw what she could do. By "we" I mean I went along with the guys from Motor. VW were fine with it, they said that it was a normal Golf (with the 103TSI)... Oh and it also had ACT... Worked amazingly well!

Interesting. Hardly seems appropriate that VGA put the car on their press fleet if it's not indicative of local spec. I wonder what a regular production 103TSI would do on the same dyno as a point of comparison. VW are known for being somewhat conservative with their power figures.
