Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • Interesting video, PP GTI looked great but obviously out of its class (R or S3/RS3 far more relevant)

      • Australian VW Golf GTI Specification Speculation

That comparison makes a lot more sense in the UK where their price is so close but kind of irrelevant for us with both the BMW and Merc starting at 75k

A Golf GTI, BMW M125I and Merc A250 are all roughly the same price in the UK.

The A45 is much more expensive than a M135 or Golf GTI.

          • Australian VW Golf GTI Specification Speculation

The GTI as tested in that video is roughly 28k (pounds) the M135 was about 31k and the A45 about 38k. Those prices are a hell of a lot closer than they are here where both Merc and BMW are getting close to double the price of the GTI

            • As a comparison... an A45 is as expensive than a C CLass 350 v6 Coupe in the UK.
The C350 coupe is 108K (on road) here!

              • Over in VAGSG (the SG Veedub forum), it looks like VW Asia is not bringing in the Performance Pack either, also on the grounds that our climate is too hot.

                • Maybe the 'pack' won't be available but possibly just the e-diff on its own in some countries???

                  • Hi Guys,
Do we know when approximately the price and specifications get released for new GTI? I know the launch is in October but does it mean the price will be revealed then or it is just when we get to see the car?

I had a test drive of A250 few weeks ago and getting bit tempted..it is exceptional value! I used UK configurator for GTI with the things I wanted and it came to same price (converting punds to $) as A250.. I know the pricing and options will be different here but the wait is killing..still have that urge to see the new GTI before going A250 way

anybody here went from Polo GTI to A250?

I remember reading the tolerances on the mechanical LSD were quite small relative to the car's stock output, so it is likely the weak link VW Australia (and Asia) are afraid of.

Is it the diff OR the power upgrade that causes the problem?

What's the wait on an A250 again?

I think the 10ps upgrade is unlikely to be an issue. I suspect ABT et al would have a reflash for the engine soon enough that is likely to be an even bigger boost.

I did recall reading an interview where a head honcho of VW specifying the tolerances of the diff and it seemed awfully low. This was probably discussed in some of the earlier pages of this very thread.

FWIW this engine is going to be used in the new R as well, so I highly doubt it is the 10ps that is the issue since that engine is going to be in the S3 as well and it is running in a much higher tune.

The S3’s 300-horse rating is a lot higher than that of any previous EA888, but the 2013 S3 engine also has at least 30 hp on the version of the EA113 engine in the VW Golf R (256 hp in the U.S. model we tested) and the outgoing S3.

                              • I think if we get the diff, it'll come in the pack otherwise the stock car could end up faster in a straight line than one with the diff and VW won't want that.

It's not such a highly strung set of mods that our climate would make a difference so hopefully VW Australia doesnt have a brain explosion and we do actually get it
