      • GTI Lowering

Ok so there comes a time when a lower profile is needed. But just how low can I go, without it looking ridiculous. Will it affect ride handling, different damper settings etc? Perhaps someone could recommend a professional place who don't change astronomical rates. I live in Melbourne, Australia. Thanks Fury.

Any modifications on to your wheels, suspension that is outside the manufacturer's spec will have effects on your ride quality/handling/etc.

In terms of how low you can go it all depends on how much you want to trade off from comfort and safety for looks.

          Good luck buddy

When do you guys typically change gears in your manuals?

            • I always drive around 3-4k for general driving. I don't see it necessary to drive any higher than that unless you are trying to floor it.

Interesting subject for a dedicated thread Ralfi.

I usually shift around 2,500rpm, but often lower, occasionally higher.

                • Hey guys,

In the market for a Mk7 GTI through novated lease. I've pretty much gone as far as having the finance papers infront of me to sign. However a news article from early 2015 regarding the Golf R Touch, where VW was quoted as saying the active info display would come to Golf models by end of 2016 has made me have second thoughts.

We haven't really seen anything concrete this year and my local dealer has shown me the list of changes for the MY17 GTI model and the active info display isn't there. Would it be fair to assume that even if VW did announce they are introducing it, that it would be most likely for the MY18 revision/Mk8 in 2019?

Well the frameless rear view mirror and Performance Monitor are already on the new Passat as I got one as a loan car last week from my dealer. It had 600km on the clock. Didn't spot Tri-zone A/C or glovebox lock, TBH. It also had the wi-fi hotspot enabled.

I also drove a new Golf last week (I was at the dealer twice in 3 days) and it had the standard rear view mirror. I did notice it had the push-button starter and keyless entry system from my R.

                          • Oh yeah, the Passat also had the 8" screen.

There's been no news or further rumours of these large displays that I've seen (and these would require a substantial overhaul to the infotainment systems in the Mk7). To be honest, I'd be very surprised to see anything like this before the Mk8, which is due around the end of 2018.

Audi has only just now introduced the LCD virtual cockpit into the TT and B9 A4, and will offer it as an option on the facelifted S3 due later this year. Often the latest premium tech is made available via Audi before being released on more mainstream models.

                              • Given VW's reluctance to even offer the bigger infotainment screen here as an option due to cost I can't imagine any of that appearing before Mk8 as Adam suggests.

The virtual cockpit stuff looks cool but honestly would never be a deal breaker for me - I didn't buy the car for the dash dials and while some features on the virtual side would be good like nav at times, I suspect I am a little old school and would prefer dials anyway.
