Just use VCDS to program the break lights on

I did that, now all the red LEDs turn on when I break.

Picked up the GTI PP yesterday... first impressions, very well insulated cabin. Thought the ride would be harsh on 19", but even in normal setting it is very good. The steering is very fast. Well finished premium feeling interior (a big improvement over my Audi A3). Stereo - a bit of a letdown (My A3 had 10 speakers including a sub), the plug in play sub unit might be an option at a later date. Others has discussed the 'poor' screen resolution and again compared to the MMI unit in my Audi - this was not touch screen I have to agree, but it's not a show stopper.'
DSG, smoother than the 7 Speed I had in the Audi, though reverse can catch you out. It does try to get into the higher gears quickly, I haven't yet set the individual mode...
Now just need to get out in the weekend to stretch its legs...

Merc sold and GTI PP ready in one week. Always shop around when selling your car. $6000 more for my Merc than what my dealer was offering! And I sold it to another VW dealer through Carsales!

I agree with pretty much everything here. Very impressed with the ride. Even in sport I find it more compliant than my previous vehicle. Such a great little car.

What oil temps are people generally getting on the GTI ? I'm seeing around 103 - 106 with standard around town driving.

Yep, I get that as well. I remember reading about the engine design and it discussed the thermal management characteristics of the oil/water temperature

Sounds in line with my car too. I've driven over to Melbourne currently and even after a decent highway stint (including sitting in 4th and 5th to vary revs) I was still on 108-109. Admittedly the ambient temperature was no more than about 13 for the trip though.

Picked up the GTI Performance today. Absolutely superb. Cannot believe the ability of the suspension to be so compliant on 19 inch rims yet remain so sporty. Let alone the rest of the car. Puts the Merc A250 to shame.
