The coming home function seems to have switched off - no lights on when you take the key out or when the door is opened not sure how to enable it permanently. Any suggestions? My Octavia keeps the light on until you lock the car.
After you have activated as per above threads, to switch it on as you leave the vehicle you pull the headlight high beam column stalk. Then when you open the door the lights will turn on .

    • Not sure if this issue has already been raised. But my MK7 103tsi had the service light come up yesterday (Telling me to service within 20 days) The cars only done 7600kms & is around 7 months old. I've called up the dealership and they are aware of the problem. I've been told its a simple 10min update that will recalibrate it to the correct service interval (15,000kms or 12 months)

      • Yep my mistake it is a TDI Highline, getting confused with the old Golf. I could blame it on a crazy day yesterday, but more likely just brain fade. I have adjusted the setting to maximum in the head unit.

I know now that the coming home function has to be turned on manually with the flasher switch every time. Did a quick search yesterday and have found out how to change it in VCDS. So all good thanks guys.

Wezza: The same exact problem happened to my 103TSI. I purchased the car in late June (2013) and the service reminder message came up in April, this year. After the days counted down to zero, I kept getting an annoying chime sound telling me that I was a bad car owner because I was neglecting my car. Rather than take my car to the dealer, I reset the service message myself - it's real easy to do:
          The process is:
          1. Switch off the ignition and press and hold the reset button on the center lower part of the front dash - It has the numbers ""0.0" embossed on the switch
          2. With the reset button pressed, switch on the ignition and then release the reset button
          3. press the reset button again to reset the service interval message

          QED

It's interesting to speculate why our service reminder messages have come-up so soon. My personal view is that the date that it appeared in my car was 12 months from the date that the engine oil was originally installed (back in Germany- I reckon). Others might have a different view - I'd welcome other responses.

          • Having just purchased an R and taking delivery in a matter of days (!) it appears my partner is about to take a new job and give back her company car (diesel Alltrack): hence in the market for a TDI (will do quite a few kms)- love the 6 speed DSG and diesel torque too.

Anyone got a price on one recently? Not etc sure on option packs think the Highline comes with sat nav (?) which is handy, any feedback appreciated. cheers

            • The Mk7 TDI 110 comes in Highline only, and includes the SatNav (which is not the best, but it's standard...so...)

              Price...ask in the prices thread?

June 2013 Highline owner here with just over 8000 k's on the clock and Ive got the message as well. First service back in early December, just chatting with the wife and we think the message first appeared end of Jan-early February. I rang the service centre and they said to bring it in and get it reset but if I can avoid that using your trick then that will suit me fine. DV52 when was your first service? I like your theory, you might be onto something there.

                    Not sure but...

Could the cars have a "Yearly inspection" programmed in? It seems that your car come up with a warning about a year after they were produced. I used to own a lot of (much) older german cars which did this and it was supposed to be a yearly inspection to check things like lights/brakes/fluids etc...I guess it became redundant after compulsory yearly MOT/Checks were introduced.

                    • The PD guy has stuffed up. They are supposed to set up the service monitor to fixed interval 15,000km/365days. They usually do it at the same time as when they zero the odometer.

                      Simple as that

Gustogroove: Hope the reset tweak works (incidentally, it's not "my trick" - the process is described in the manual somewhere but I can't remember the page number). My car is due for a service (12 months after purchase) on 23 June 2014.

As for my hypothesis as to why the early service reminder has come-up so soon, can anyone comment on the fact that the biuld date for my vehicle is Jan 2013. Is it reasonable for VW cars to have their first oil fill three months after the build date (seems like to long a time period to me)?

                        • The only problem with resetting the reminder msg early, is that the same reminder may appear early in a years time, unless it is reset again at the proper service time. I am only postulating.

soogs: Yes, that's very true. My assumption is that in both Wezza's case and in mine, the service reminder message will be reset again by our respective dealers when we get the first service undertaken. Once that is done, any subsequent service messages should be syncronised to the correct time.

                            • Can anyone comment on the Highline leather seats in the Golf 7 vs. the leather seats on the mark 6 comfortline?

I had my service reminder reset last weekend at the dealers. (10 min job) I asked the dealer if i'd still get a reminder when the service is due and have been told the reset does actually re-synchronise the reminder function so yes i'll still get a message at 15k and everyone after that.
