Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Mk7 Golf TSI & TDI - Observations and Questions

Enable" Traffic" button on Mk7 Golf - VCDS tweak
Enable Traffic Information (TMC) on Mk7 Golf - VCDS tweak
Step 1. On "Select Control Module" option click "Select"
Step 2. Select "5F-information Elect"
Step 3. Select "Adaptation"
Step 4. Using pull-down menu, select "Fee Based Traffic Information (TMC)" channel (it's about 20% down the channel list)
Step 5 Change default value "0" to ?????
Edit (30/04/2015): The magic number for Step 5 is apparently "1024".
This value was initially suggested in sucnip's post below (see #55)
And the value was confirmed in alanzidan's post below (see #48 - tweak 5.1)The remaining steps in the procedure are:
Step 5. Enter "1024" into "New Value" box and click "Do It!" tab. (edit: I have seen the code "32771" used in UK models in this adaptation channel)
Step 6. Click the "Yes" tab in the "Re-code Invalid" screen.
Step 7. When the screen in Step 5 returns, click "Add to log" to record a copy of the change report.
Step 8. Click "Go Back" (in Step 5 screen) and exit the VCDS software
Missing Adaptation channel - Fix
The channel, Fee Based Traffic Information (TMC) in step (4) appears in the drop-down list if byte 13 of 5F-information Elect. controller has a coding value of hex09. If this channel does not appear, then byte 13 may need to be changed to this value. Byte 13, bit 3 needs to be set for RDS to be enabled as per the screen-shot below (thanks zloybob.):
Finally, after the changes above have been made, it's a good idea (I think) to reset the infotainment unit as follows: Press the on/off button on the radio until the unit switches off and keep holding down the button until the unit switches on again
Please note the following after the tweak has been completed:- For TMC to work, "TP" and "RDS" need to be activated in the set-up menu for the radio
- It may take some time for the new facility to be established and for the initial set of traffic reports to be downloaded. In my case, the wait time was over an hour, but others have reported longer times.
EDIT: Further information from zloybob -

this is true for MIB1... but this could change for MIB2Last edited by DV52; 13-09-2016, 07:54 AM.Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. In the end, I'm convinced that any meaningful advancement in our collective understanding of Mr Ross's equipment and the mk7 can only happen as a collaborative exercise. Hence the benefit of forums like these and hence my request to GekoZAO and his/her friend! Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. How soon before they finally say - "you don't actually get a car, just a big box of spare parts, it was a mistake in the brochure"

I would say that anyone who purchased their car prior to the bulletin would have a case for VWA to correct this by providing the LED globes.
Anyone who purchased after the bulletin and wasn't informed of this would have a case to take up with their dealer (VWA would wipe their hands of it as they have informed the dealer via a bulletin). This would mean the dealer would have to put their hands in their pocket which I can imagine that most dealers will try to avoid.
It's going to be a hard one to prove that they've informed you or not as the case may be if it isn't in writing.

Don't the VW brochures have a disclaimer "Specifications Subject to Change without Notice" I know HolForToyo brochures used to have it.
It sucks but that's their out when the spec of the vehicle doesn't match the brochure.
I note that nobody complains or offers the dealer more money when the delivered vehicles specifications are upgraded over that in the brochure.carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic

Hi Alex31, just wondering did you receive your LED taillights kit, and have you now installed? If so, how did it go? Very interested to know what you may have learned as I am considering doing same. Thanks.

I have two questions;
1) Why won't VW Australia let me buy a MkVII TDI with manual gearbox?
2) Why isn't the EPB an option?
Regarding 1) I love my MkVI TDI M/T, I like driving a manual. Why am I being denied this in Australia?
Regarding 2) I know how to perform hill starts with a mechanical handbrake. Is VW dumbing down the car or what? I'm not casting aspersions on anyone who likes the EPB, I've never used one.MY10 Golf MkVI 103TDI United Grey

1. Because along with me you are probably the only person in Australia who would buy one. Most people buying Golfs want /get DSG.
2. Who uses the handbrake for hill starts anyway? I certainly never did. It's clumsy and time consuming and anyone with a bit of co-ordination shouldn't need to.
btw The hill-holder / auto hold and E brake function in my new Golf is fantastic. Both are set to be on all the time. I just need to be careful now when getting back into other manual cars to keep my foot on the brake on hills and to release the handbrake when starting.Nov '15 Polo 81TSI manual white
