Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • I can't believe the negative feedback everyone has from Barolworld Volkswagen Glen Waverley.
I have had nothing but a positive experience from the last 2 GTI's I have bought from there.

Both times I bought the cars from there I didn't have to wait long to get served, when I asked for test drives, there was no issue. When I bought the MK6 I was allowed to take it then and there for a test drive.
When I bought the MK7 I had to book an appointment as I went after work and they were closing.

After the deal was done, I had no issue with my dealer fitting the LED tail lights for me (when I asked him, he said sure, No probs, and this was post contract signing). When I found the car was fitted with the V1 version Nav software (after over a week of owning the car) I went and saw the dealer and he changed them the V2 without any hassles.
Plus he always responded to my emails post purchase. And in a timely matter.

Service department great as well. On my MK 6 I had an issue with my rear wiper blades breaking. Went the service department without booking an appointment and they helped me then and there by replacing the part. And every time I go there I get served straight away and they always make we feel like I am important (the way it should be).

So yeah, I am surprised about all the negative feedback but I will go back there for my 3rd car, if I end up getting a MK8.

I had a really good experience from mcgrath VW in Liverpool. It was a pleasure dealing with them and their after sales service has been great.

I have also had a great experience with Barloworld Glen Waverley, unlike the Bayside dealership where I had to terminate my contract due to being lied to about stock availability.

I had my rear right taillight cluster changed due to condensation 2 weeks after taking delivery. I also got anti theft plate screws installed 8 weeks in when the old ones had started to rust, no probs.

My sales guy and the service department have all been very helpful and polite and answered all my stupid questions since I don't know anything about cars. It's a shame the experience is not consistent across the board..

Well when I purchased my MKV R32 back in 2008 Barloworld wouldn't even let me test drive the Demo R32 they had at the time because "it had done too many kms that weekend"

Yeah at the time I was young (21/22 at the time) but you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover as they've lost 2 sales due to the stick being too far up their own arse. I got my R32 from Burwin and the MK7 was ordered at Ringwood VW.

              • Well when I went to Volkswagen in Berwick, I walked in and they had no customers at all in the showroom, all the dealers where standing at the back chatting to each other. No one approached or me or even acknowledged that I was there. It had to take the receptionist to call someone over.
Started chatting to the sales manager and he was just shrugging me off as if I could not afford one. I asked him to email me and give me best price etc., but no email came though even after I emailed him. So sale lost there!
I am 31 but look much younger and would pass for low to mid 20s. So Barloworld Glen Waverly would have every right to think the same but they didn't.

                • While I contributed to the bag Barloworld Glen Waverley sentiment in post #966, the reality is everybody has a different experience at any dealership. There are many factors which contribute to these experiences, but if any dealership treated the majority of their customers like !@#$, they wouldn't remain in business. We could probably do ourselves a favour and just move on. One thing I have learnt is that when rocking up to a dealership, it's best to announce that you have spoken to or exchanged emails with a specific sales representative, and you've either made an appointment to see him/her or they're expecting you to drop in.

                  • It may also come down to the individual sales person that you get at that dealer. You'll only need 1 bad apple salesman to have the posts coming to forums. Yet, I have finally managed to find 1 VW salesperson in the ACT that will actually give great service and well, treat you like a human. So when I recommend people to test drive a VW, I also state this person's name. Otherwise they will probably get the same service I got in the previous 8 years! (Not kidding, I kept on buying my cars interstate...)

                    • I'm holding judgement to see if my dealer comes through on delivering my GTI on Monday. Was told yesterday was a possibility but I'm not getting a nice feeling as they have handballed (could well be the case though) the blame on delivery to Patricks... I find to hard to believe that a dealer can't get a definite answer for delivery to their dealership from such a company. It's a shame as it's been a decent negotiation up until this point... Time will tell though

                        • ^ Acid how are you tracking your factory build. I ordered in March and they just told me they will update me on the eta. I was told in June that the car will be here on the 3rd of September and delivery 2 to 3 weeks after. Is there something I can check to see thd cars progress? Without calling the dealer

                            • Hi jase1972,

My order isn't a factory order. They have said that the car is in Laverton sitting in Patricks yard awaiting compliance and delivery to the dealer. The thing I don't get is how can a company such as Patricks not give a delivery date to the dealer for my car? Apparently they are waiting on another 6 or 7 cars. I'm starting to think the dealer is playing games but I will hold judgement until tomorrow which is my 'estimated' delivery date. Not sure how they'll take delivery of 7 odd cars and pre-deliver them for us awaiting collection in a space of 10 hours. Maybe some of those other cars have a later delivery date but being end of financial year, my guess is that there will be a handful on unhappy customers.

With your position, just call the dealer and see if they can help? They should be more than happy to help. What did you order if you don't me asking?

                              EDIT: Or what Dutch77 said

                              • ACID: The dealers do have (or at least can have) access to Patricks system to track the cars once they enter Patricks care. I can understand that they would be waiting for a full load before transporting so at this stage they may very well be in a genuine 'holding pattern'. As for multiple deliveries it's easy to get bumped up the list - keep asking. Unless you're a PITA the dealer/salesman will always bump up those that keep asking, and leave those that don't to last.
