  • You need semi slicks to have half a chance with that sort of power and the torque they produce even with the LSD in them. Same issue they have in the real world on the road. Grip fails

    • Hey Guys,
I was quoted $61k drive away for fully optioned DSG R Hatch(Roof, DAP, Dynaudio, metallic) MY18.5 they called it, june-July delivery. Does this seem like a good deal or should I be able to do better?
I was aiming to get into the high $50s. Doable? In Melb. Thanks.

          • Yeah 61k was what I got offered for lease pricing on a R with all options (well, this was last year so minus the Dynaudio). The dealer my lease provider goes with wouldn't budge on price, and their Wolfie pricing was up at 68k (lol).

Interesting. My lease provider tried a couple of places for my Alltrack as their regular dealer was on the other side of the city to me but the cheapest price they got was from them. I wasn't overly happy with the best quote they had so I sourced my own price using a contact another forum member gave me. I got additional $1700 off the quote and my lease provider had no problems with it - they still get a lease to manage after all.

                Absolutely.

The only time a lease deal should impact a car price is if you're looking to utilize VW finance. Otherwise they're two separate things.

I'd always try to split the process (car purchase v lease organization) as often there is a better deal to be negotiated (although we've covered all that before). I'd want the best car deal combined with the best lease deal. If I was leasing.

                • Oh for sure, I was just a little surprised that my lease provider couldn't provide something a little more competitive. I then went straight to the dealership themselves and they were unwilling to come down, either.

With my current lease I had the same problem, and just sought out the deal myself (and got an extra couple of k off).

Anyway, now I've pretty much made up my mind what I'm buying (I think I've discounted the M140i, while it ticks a lot of boxes there's a lot it doesn't) I'm going to start firing around some emails and see who is interested at the price I'm willing to pay. That's worked for me before.

                  • Getting close to the end of the month. Sales folks are usually a little eager at that time to get their numbers up for the month.

                    • i bought a wolfie late last year. just got a letter in the mail from the dealer saying that if i let them service the car i will get a 3yr /175,000km ‘Mechanical Protection Plan’.

Anybody have a clue what this is? More than a ploy to have them service the car?

Those are very ave prices for sure. Maybe novated lease get better price as pretax? But I got quoted $54k for DSG with DA. Even assuming full price of dynaudio and sunroof $2900 I probably looking at $57K.

I got quoted $57k for S3 sedan and m140i in spec we wanted. I just looked up the RRP price of the S3 sedan in our spec we got is almost $78k so we got about 26% off.

I just looked up fully optioned DSG R is almost $69k, I'd think buying privately would be amazing job to get under 60. Maybe end of month and be serious about walking away I'd offer $59,995 and hand them credit card for deposit then and there and see how you go.

When I bought privately s3 sedan and the MK7R I think I got roughly 10% off. I got stock DSG and paid $55k so basically no ORC. I see than the prices have risen $3k in that time and m140i has reduced its price.

                        • So it doesn't sound like the best deal listed here but it may be of use to someone else, I paid $60,500 drive away for fully optioned DSG R Hatch(Roof, DAP, Dynaudio, metallic) MY18.5.

I didn't do finance, trade etc to keep the negotiation simple and don't have access to fleet deals so it was just me walking in off the street. I did speak to 4 dealers in melbourne and the other prices ranged from $62k to $64k drive away. I told them all if they could do it under 60 id give them a deposit on the spot.

                          now the wait begins...

You're not comparing apples with apples though.

The original cost of the car might be lower for the GST credit (capped at the LCT limit) but the FBT calculation claws this all back - there is no free lunch.

Rest assured, someone leasing is not suddenly getting some magically better deal than a private buyer direct.

I'm no expert so I believe you. All I know is that we paid $66k for s3 sedan privately on car that was about 73k full price and leasing company got new one for $57k with full price of almost $78k.

I think that person that paid $60,500 is great deal that's more than 12% off. I assume that there isn't the same margin with VW as compared to Audi/BMW. My step brother got his 430i last year at roughly 25% off.

Anyway, great cars but I think they need to keep pricing to around $60k Drive away personally to have great value too. Mind you even the new Mustangs will be over $70k RRP with minimal options so seems many cars going up. The BMW only one that's become a way better deal. I remember looking at M135i 4 years ago and most people paid $80k for them and now the M140i with way more features etc can get for low to mid 60's.

Millions wouldn't - glad you do.

Regardless whoever was sourcing your vehicles was getting some sharp pricing either way.

A fully loaded Golf R I guess is effectively $1k dearer now with the Dynaudio option in there, but may depend where you're buying with the different ORC as it's showing up under $66k here - so I'd be expecting a sub $60k sticker.

Actually when I was looking at a stock R before changing to the Wolf wagon at the last moment I had one at $57.5k before I'd even tried to talk them down. That was with no roof, and no Dynaudio then so ignoring the few duty dollars difference it would put it at $60.4k pre haggle.

An Audi dealer is lucky to average a 10% margin, so presumably buyers paying retail and other adjustments are how cars are coming in with margins over this.

Agreed on the BMW, I looked at it when it first came out - those original M135i buyers if they were still holding have taken a massive hit..
