Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • It is a lot of money to justify 2k but opticoat + is $1400 now and its so much better than that
8mths in and it still looks freshly waxed
After every blast with the pressure wash

Also water still beads and bird poo/sap ect comes off easily with no marks/stains or residues left behind

It feels slick almost like Teflon to the touch unlike anything i have used before

Paintwork to put for want of a better term just glows i get comments all the time about how nice it looks

So for me worth every cent of 2k and will use it again for my next car

Others balk at the price fair enough it is steep but for the extra over other coatngs... extra 600 to 1k worth the step up imo

True, we were a little spoilt in Adelaide to get it cheap.

As I'm moving back and regaining access to my 'washbay' at home I'm going to work on this car directly.

If I was going back to Melbourne I'd probably be more likely to consider it again as I'd be unlikely to be able to maintain it. If it was a dark colour.

      • Ceramic Pro over Opticoat 100% and whoever is charging you $2,000 is ripping you off!

On a Holden Commodore, I had it done INCLUDING a detail and paint correction where it was required before hand for around $1400.

And DEFINITELY get the wheels done too. Front and back. Nothing better than a pressure washer to simply hose off brake dust, tar and road grime from your rims.

        • No one was paying $2k for opticoat.. and I think it's a given that paint correction is done before application.

It's debatable whether it actually stacks up on a mid-priced car that was all.

          • Hey guys,

Anyone ordered a fully optioned DSG R Hatch(Roof, DAP, Dynaudio) recently? Last year I was quoted for that and an extended warranty for about 61k, so I figure it'd be pretty much the same dropping the warranty and adding the Dynaudio.

Pushing things over 60k makes it a bit of a hard sell to the other half so interested to see what people have got. I know people have previously got roof+dap for around 58 - but not sure if those prices are still the same due to popularity.

Am in Vic. Also, for those got the Dyaudio (assuming on their Wolfies) - if you've had a 7 before, how did it compare to the standard audio? I haven't found the standard system to be all that bad (in fact when I jumped in a M140i I was a little disappointed in how it didn't really sound that much different to my 7's audio).

Worst case is I could drop down to a Grid, but I really don't know if I could put up with the seats..

            • All paint protection is not worth it if you turn your car over every 4 year's or so
Mine is a 10 plus year ownership so its worth it to me
              I used pomponazzi not opticoat
Tbh its all for how the car makes you feel i have done in addition to the pomponazzi brakes/wheels/tyres/intake/hydrodipping engine bay parts ect will i ever see a return on it not a chance!
But the smile it puts on my face everytime i drive it or work on it over the next 10 years priceless

Dynaudio is huge step up from the standard system it's one of the best sound systems available.

Yep.. I was not fussed that it came with the car until I started using it. Converted.

                      • IMO you have to be an audiophile. I can't tell the difference at the volume I listen to audio at. Plus music is background to me and I sometimes even prefer to drive with it off.

                        • Surprisingly the wife said if I think we can afford it then I should get what car I want. Test driving an R tomorrow, the sensible option is the GTI but at no point I time would I ever get the R and say is wish I'd got the other.

                          • I have test driven the gti and r back to back at the phillip island vw experiance and the r is better much better the only reason to get a gti is if you cant afford a r imo

                            • Yeah, I've been looking into the GTI to keep costs down, but I I don't think I could do the povo pack version, and when you start speccing them up they're pretty close to the R in base form....and at that point, why not just get the R?

Which is obviously what VW want you do to. I think the pricing team have done their job fairly well.

                                I guess close is subjective.
