Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

The MotorCharge card has a BP logo on it. I don't appear to get discounts. In fact, if I want the Virgin air miles, I have to buy the fuel on my own card and then claim it back!!

I know it works in Shell stations and my closest station (Caltex) doesn't carry 98 so the BP (1.1km away) is where I usually end up anyway as I drive past it twice a day!

    • Hi guys,

I am trying to change by rear brake pads and can't seem to work out how to remove the brake callipers.

The calliper seems to have an allen key bolt but doesn't fit either a 6mm or 8mm Allen key.

      Am I missing something here?

The fronts where straight forward and just have a normal hex bolt.

      I have an R wagon.

Well leather and the adaptive suspension are standard items so really you just need to factor in the cost of the DSG.

You should be below $60k drive away, around $57-$58k, I guess. I paid $54k for a MY16 car exactly the same but with the manual 'box.

Basically stock DSG full price $60, 700. Do you have any chance of corparate pricing? If so you shoud be able to push for around $55-56K.

                            • Hey guys, I have a question relating to the characteristic of the DSG in the Mk7 R and whether anyone else has experienced the pause that occurs in the gear changes between 1st and 2nd during hard acceleration particularly in sports auto? I find that performing the same hard acceleration in manual mode the gear change is instantaneous as it should be. I also find that in auto under hard acceleration it doesn't have the characteristic "fart" out the back for the 1st to 2nd change in auto and it only seems to happen in manual mode?

Having previously owned a Mk6 Gti I think that the R's DSG tune is a step backwards. The downshift rev matching in the R can be lazy and only seems to want to work if it gets enough warning and you are driving hard. The Gti would rev match every time no matter what the situation and the pop out the back was much louder in the Gti. The R has a habit of upshifting by itself when you hit redline whereas I don't remember the Gti ever doing that?

Anyone agree or do I have one of a kind?

I'd recommend having the DSG checked I have a R DSG changes are instantaneous Sport or Normal, the R DSG should feel similar to the GTI
