I am very sceptical about it being only 0.3 seconds slower in real life as it is on paper, would have to shift every gear perfect and amazingly quick, there was a write up a while ago of a guy in a mk6 r trying to match the quoted times of 0-100 and could only get within .4 of a second. And he was rowing though gears something chronicWell yes, not long to go now.Originally posted by andrew7 View PostMikey1 should have his manual R in a week or so (one of the 1st down under I believe?) so hopefully he'll put it to the test hainsey

The 0 - 100 km/h times for the Euro spec 221kW manual models are officially 0.2 secs slower at 5.1 secs, and the 206kW "hot climate" manual models are officially 0.2 secs slower at 5.2 secs. I assume customers who purchase a manual over a DSG don't place a high priority on achieving the best 0 - 100 km/h times, otherwise they would have purchased a DSG, which would provide far more consistent times. Rowing gears at lightening speed sounds like hard work, and not something I would pay much attention to. I just look forward to the greater engagement with my car, which in round numbers should be about 2.0 seconds faster than my manual Mk5 GTI, which is really the only benchmark I care about.

It's not really rowing gears in a manual, straight down for 1-2 and a quick flick up/across into 3rd before you hit 100.
You may also find the DSG is torque limited in 1st gear to preserve the internals - it certainly was in earlier models. So the manual could be putting more power to the wheels from the get-go. Who knows?

Sorry, I got sidetracked.Originally posted by hainsey View PostAll I wanted to know was how close has anyone gotten to the quoted times in a manual
I don't think anyone on this forum has received their manual yet. Annoyingly, a non-enthusiast neighbour of mine received his manual R a couple of weeks ago, but I know he isn't interested in acceleration times. Of course, in Europe and the UK, they have had their manuals for a while now, so you would think somebody would have posted something to answer your question.

Yeah I did look but couldn't find anything, but over the past with manual times they are extremely generous on how fast they are2014 Limestone Grey Mk7 Golf R

I wouldn't worry about the manufacturer's claim (or some magazine's claim) on 0-100 times. Different tyres, air temp, altitude, road surface, type/age of fuel, driver skill - so many factors that can all sway the results by quite a bit. Does it matter whether you can reproduce someone else's time in a manual? It's torture on your clutch and tyres anyway.
