Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

This is a sticky topic.

After much deliberation on a fitting replacement for my current car I have arrived at the conclusion that the sensible money for the best all-round car on the market when taking into consideration performance, cost, comfort, build quality, and aesthetics seems to be the R. So I dropped into the local dealership this afternoon and ordered a white car with leather; estimated delivery date is 23rd Sept.
I am going to try to hold off for as long as possible with a tune and 'zaust but I'm not liking my chances given how pedestrian the R feels.
Anyway, a big thanks to all of the contributors to this thread in providing information that has been both entertaining and informative.

Congrats Marty, join the Pure White R club! (mine + driver assist is coming in early October delivered to Melbourne so no doubt on the same boat) (btw based on my 2 months driving my departed Lapiz Blue R I'd have to dispute that the performance is 'pedestrian'. It goes off like a firecracker when you boot it and sounds the biz. Still a tune and exhaust couldn't hurt

Thanks for the welcome mate! Haha BTW... it's Matt(y); the McFly bit is a playful homage to Back to the Future.
Anyway, sounds as though this next round of cars are all on the same boat and I was pleased to hear that it was an MY15. The dealer could not elaborate on whether we might get the power bump to 210kw as per the Audi spec, but mentioned he was attending the Polo launch next weak and would ask the question.
So far as the pedestrian comment goes, I was in no way trying to put down the car. However, coming from a 370ishKW Evo X MR, most cars are slow. As my girlfriend (who knows nothing about cars) said when we test drove the R... I like it because it's fast and it doesn't scare me like the Evo.

Oops sorry Matty! (yep got the BTTF reference
The Evo is certainly a beast! I"m coming from a mk6 GTI so a good power boost to the R. I just love the strong linear power delivery, lightning fast gear changes (and dsg farts) and angry engine note. Refinement and build quality the icing on the cake in what is a really solid all round package (and agree you can stick it in Eco mode and the wife can putter about happily as well)

guys I don't have words to describe this review is like watching a cartoon, it involves the STI WRX, the A Class 45 AMG, the Golf R and apparently a Proton car judge by yourselves...
