Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 204kw wheel power about 10 to 15% more should be the engine power, this is stock.

I think this follow up post is even more confusing

So APR tuned R has 380sh kw?

Somebody else needs to contact Guy Harding to set the story straight. 204 kW at the wheel translates to about 235 kW at the flywheel using the 15% drive-train loss rule for FWD, assuming no power or torque sent to the rear wheels, if no front wheel slippage is detected. Circa 380 kW for APR tuning equates to 510 HP, which doesn't sound realistic in the slightest. Perhaps he meant 380 HP, which equates to 283 kW, which sounds more realistic.

No worries, thanks for trying to provide an update anyway!

Def looking forward to what they can come up with the R/S3!

                  - when deliveries are expected to start
                  - whether there will be any spec differences to the earlier build DSGs

Hi Stephen, only yesterday after my persistent pestering of my selling dealer, did I learn that the manual Golf R I ordered in mid April has finally been allocated a build slot in week 30, which translates to the week commencing Monday 21/7. My delivery ETA is now late Sep/early Oct. The benefit of waiting so long is that all MY2015 R's might be fitted with the same upgraded 210 kW engine, which is definitely being supplied to Oz bound Audi S3's. Whether this 4 kW in increase in power actually translates into any real world seat-of-your pants performance improvement is questionable. Nevertheless, we will be rewarded with bragging rights of having a more potent engine, at least on paper. As far as other MY2015 changes are concerned, there is a separate thread stating what the changes are for the entire passenger car range, which for Golf R buyers will not amount to much. For what it's worth the changes include: repositioning of the tyre inflation pressure label from the fuel flap to the B-pillar (all Golfs), on the central dial of the dual-zone climate control, the button previously labelled "SETUP' has changed to 'MENU", "40 Years GOLF" decal fitted on rear window to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Golf model (all Golfs) and the SAFELOCK deadlocking function can be deactivated by switching off the alarm system interior monitoring via the interior button. As there is no mention about any power increase, this may be something that is quietly introduced, to avoid any negative sentiment from existing MY2014 Golf R buyers, who may feel peeved about this. After all, the Golf R has only just be launched in the last 3 months. At least with the Audi S3, this model has been available for longer.

                          • Definitely looks like huge performance gains from tune. guessing APR/revo both prob getting 380hp 500nm and sub 4 0-100 potential! Going to be some extremely fast cars out there soon!

                            • Anyone picked up a boot liner/mat for your R? Need one to protect the boot from my hairy pooch and some I've found on fleabay mentioned they don't fit an R (smaller boot due to Haldex system I presume)

There have been mats mentioned in the accessories thread, but I wouldn't bother with buying anything other than the genuine semi-rigid dimpled plastic mat with slightly raised sides. I have one of these in my Mk5 GTI. I'm pretty sure there is a version which is tailored to suit the Mk7 R.
