I've been given a price of a bit over $61,000 for an R with DSG and all options with Corporate Plus discount. Looks like people have beaten this? How much have people managed to get a base model S3 for? I'm quite happy for people to have a laugh, I'm a failed A250 Sport owner! Can't stand the thing. The suspension is completely intolerable and the gearbox is rubbish. I'd had 2 GTI's before this thing.

Welcome back to the fold - hopefully! On the question of S3 pricing, shouldn't you be asking this on the ozAudi forum?

I thnk I should be able to get the R for a bit cheaper. I'm trying to justify staying with VW! I wish I'd never left. Dad has an S3 but it was $75 on the road with all options. I think the R is much better value and I like the VW interior a lot more. I think Audi have removed so many buttons for an uncluttered look that the dash looks quite bland now. The Audi MMI system drives me mad as well. The Merc one is very simple and easy to use. I'm glad VW have stayed with a "normal" dash. I'm driving the R and GTI PP on Wed.

I remember you going for this now. Can you give us more detail? How long was the wait/how long did you have it? Was it worse than you noticed on the test drive? I ask because I looked at one as well around the same time but never test drove.

Brought my Audi S3 with performance pack and panomaric sunroof , window tint paid $69,000 on road back in November if you play hard ball you should be able to get a better deal now .

I looked at the Golf R however i decided the Audi S3 was more my cup of T

Anyone had any gearbox issues? I got a gearbox error on mine today saying reverse was unselectable and front assist was disabled. At the same time, lost the gear indicator on the display (D1, etc), and wouldn't change. Pulled over and turned the engine off and on again. Seemed ok for a couple of minutes but then got the same message again (repeated the process a few times). Now have a warning light on which indicates a faulty catalytic converter! Looks like the VW dealer will be getting a call first thing tomorrow!!
While this is disappointing, I've been loving the car so far!!

With your various messages and failures and no issues in between id guess a CPU/controller fault (phew!) rather than anything mechanical (oh no, please no DSG probs VW!)

I pick up my Mk7 Golf R Monday. Didn't get around to test driving one, test drove GTI, GTI PP, Mercedes A250, BMWM135i, 328i and Audi S3. I really liked the GTI and PP, hated the Mercedes took it back after 2 minutes, found BMW interior boring but nice to drive and absolutely loved the S3.

Decided on the Golf R as I prefer the looks as hatch over S3 and with keeping stock except for DSG got price of $55k so guessing 7-10K cheaper than S3. But going to definitely order my wife S3 sedan towards end of year.

Dealer suspected a software issue. Advised that they did a software update but it didn't resolve the problem. They are now in communication with VW to try and resolve. I'm still suspecting something electronic or software related. Seems unlikely that a gearbox error and faulty catalytic converter would occur at exactly the same time?!

I also changed a mec CLA Edition one for my golf R, The VWs feel like real german cars, The Cla does look nice but didn't perform well, plus the interior had rattle noises every where with only 7000kms I can't imagine with the years how it would be, I am glad I changed it I am very happy with My Golf R.
