Is 4kw really a "hike" though?

Torque is the important factor - both across the rev range and the maximum value which converts to kw at a given rpm. kw ratings are... over-rated in my opinion.

I managed to get a brief 10 minute test drive in a Golf R this morning. Feels like a well sorted car with good power but I wasn't blown away by the quality of the interior and it wasn't as potent as I had expected - maybe it's a little too civilised after getting out of my Mk6 GTI with APR exhaust + tune. Just didn't have the power delivery that I'm used to. Maybe because it was a demo car with only a few thousand kms on the clock, dunno. Got the usual story about low stock, next delivery not until December, etc. It took a lot of talking to get a test drive and he admitted they get a lot of tyre kickers with the new R. I'm in no hurry so I think I'll go back mid-week for a proper test drive.

The 4Motion saps a lot of power from the engine vs the FWD of the car. But you should be getting more if you tune up the engine the same manner you tweaked yr GTI.

R Owners: Does your car auto lock after you shut the engine, close the door and walk away? For some reason I have never seen this happen on my vehicle and I always have to lock it using the fob. Is this the expected behavior that requires another VCDS tweak? Thanks.

Nope, mine doesn't auto lock, just need to touch the door handle (on the sensor) and it locks

Would be interested in others response to 2 questions as ma in the process of ordering a Golf R:
1 - what dates have they been told manual cars they have ordered will be delivered
2 - my car spec is black with black leather - no other options. Dealer has priced that (with corporate rate) at $56,800 - is that a fair (or good) price?

Stephen, your quotation appears to offer no more than the benefit of the $1000 reduced dealer delivery fee. There is certainly an opportunity for you to negotiate a better outcome, but there is no point in forum members quoting prices they received as there are many factors which will determine your best price, such as your dealer's overheads, varying statutory charges between states and the previous relationship you had with that dealer. Also, some belligerent dealers appear to not want to discount and these should be avoided by savvy buyers.

As far as delivery is concerned, anything from mid September should be possible - refer to my signature for my estimated date.

Its part of the keyless package on the car. Make sure u have the key on you and try again.

There are 2 sensors on the door handle.

The first one is "external" and you can see it easily. That's the one to press to lock the car.

The other one is "hidden". It is where the door unlock catch is found normally on cars which DON'T have this feature. That sensor unlocks the car.

The problem is that a number of users slide our hands into the handle when we want to press the first button. This results in the car locking and then unlocking it because both sensors are triggered.

Try pressing the lock button without sliding your hands into the handle.
