  • I test drove a manual S3 back in Jan when they landed at my local dealership. My current drive is a Mk6 GTI with Stg 2 APR so I was expecting a similar driving experience, at least in the power stakes. The S3 was underwhelming - steering felt a bit wooden, the car didn't "feel" as rapid and the cabin felt smaller. Much classier build on the whole (obviously) but performance-wise I just couldn't see the big step up. AWD is a bonus but if this is how the R drives I won't be in a rush to upgrade to the R as I had planned. Maybe they need to be woken up with a tune - at least back to Euro spec?

    • If anyone is near Bankstown Airport right now - you can see a few R and GTI PP models for yourself. I just saw about 15 of them as part of a VW experience day. It is wet but they are at the end of the main entry road near the small passenger terminal. Red GTI PP, lots of CSG, some white, some white R's, blue etc.

Better be quick... I was driving down Marion St and saw the distinctive LED tails so followed it all the way to the mother-load!!

Umm a stage 2 modified car to stock though?

a simple tune on the S3 would no doubt eat the GTI alive, let alone a stage 2 etc

VW have been shooting themselves in the foot for a long time then as it's about the same price as they've been charging for a while.

Absolutely. I was just saying that I expected to feel the extra 20kW in the new S3. For all that money it's just not there. I do have a Powerball ticket for tonight though.

            • So has anyone that's put in a deposit got contacted by their dealers yet with regards to test drives etc?

I'm hoping to hear back early next week but to be honest I'm personally quite disappointed with the pricing and options available. At this price point if I'm still going to proceed with my order after the test drive I will likely have to drop the leather option, and just go with the Driver's Assistance Package and Sunroof, which will probably come to about +/-$65k for driveaway.

Not trolling but I am now seriously considering the V40 T5 R-design. Would be keen to test drive both back to back for better comparison.

Yes they are totally different cars by nature but I guess if someone is after bang for buck the V40 does look very tempting.

They're a lot rarer so will stand out a lot more, and have fairly easy on the eye styling.

It falls down in the drive stakes though, and would be pushing to high 50s on road if you want to add the similar driving assistance package - not sure what sort of discounting Volvo are offering these days.

Was contacted today by my dealer @ Ipswich regarding a test drive for this Saturday. Will wait and see but with only roughly $5k difference to the Audi S3 it's going to be a tough sell for him.

Wow that sounds like a pretty good deal for a fully optioned model. Can you PM where you got the deal from?

As has been previously mentioned in this thread, electric seats without a memory function is quite pointless. Logically, the sports seats supplied in the S Performance Package have manual seat controls. While the cabin is definitely simpler, maintaining Audi's traditional minimalist approach, you do miss out on Volkswagen's clever storage solutions around the dash, console and the overhead sunglasses compartment.
