Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Definately is limestone grey. Taken straight from a uk forum of a delivered vehicle.

          • You know how Clarkson said he preferred the GTI because the AMG A45 was overpriced? I just did a reasonably decent spec on the R and it would cost me 41k pounds. The AMG A45 with similar specs is 44k pounds.

I can't believe how competitive prices are in the UK.

As the Discover Pro is not on the VGA option list for any lesser Golf, don't expect it to be available for any Mk7 Golf in the foreseeable future. The 5.8" Discover Media system will be standard for the R. The prime reason for the Discover Pro being unavailable is that VGA would need to charge around $2K for this upgraded unit, and their marketing department is convinced most Aussie buyers could not justify paying this much when the standard system already includes most of the desired functions.

              • 19" Cadiz wheels will be standard fitment on all new Golf Rs

There will no 18" Cadiz or 19" Pretoria wheels available as factory fitted options. However, they may be available as dealer supplied accessories, but they will probably be very expensive unless you can do a deal to swap the factory fitted 19" Cadiz wheels. Why is there no flexibility on factory options for custom orders? VGA policy for the new Golf 7 is to simplify the range, standard specification and options. They looked at what the popular options customers have bought previously, and have applied this to the new range. It supposedly helps to keep prices stable and profits up!

So what is the major draw feature of the 5.8" Discover Pro? Larger screen?

Its an 8' inch with much higher resolution and really, really, smooth and fast operation. In other countries it can connect to the internet and overlay google traffic and street view on the map too.

I'm thinking VW may not offer it as an option until the google services are enabled in Aus.

                    • Why don't they at least offer it as an option not doing a finance analyst and crapping on about other cars but a Ovlov offer the Sensus touch which is their equivalent as an option for about $2,000 or so

Bundling/simplifying options makes sense: however excluding a new design 19 inch wheel available elsewhere to VW customers around the world (and we live in a small world thanks to the www) is very disappointing.

Same scenario applies for South Africa. Blame small market here and in SA. However, our trans-Tasman neighbours are more fortunate than us.

^ This. Suggest FA you move over to more appropriate Land Rover forums and let us get back to the R.
