Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I agree to a point. The Mk6 R was a solid sales performer, and if Audi will steal sales like Mercedes have with their runaway hit, the A45 AMG, then VW dealers will need to be flexible, which can only benefit those who prefer an R.

Pricing with the VW corporate discount?
I'm leaning towards limestone grey this time around.
DrK, you haven't been taking your medicine! If you have been a good patient, you would have read in previous posts that no pricing has been released yet, and the Golf R will be excluded from the corporate program.

      • Word on the street has the new Golf R having the same 206kW/380Nm engine spec as the S3 (i.e. they have both been detuned the same amount for Australian conditions).

As a few others have mentioned pricing not out until launch on the 12th April (same day as GTI PP launch).

And apparently the R will be coming with LED number plate lights.... but will wait and see if the cars actually get delivered with LEDs or globes.

        • The GTI PP has the LED number plate lights confirmed - other forum members have checked - so the R will be fine

          • I highly doubt the mk7 would not have LED tail lights when the mk6 had LED tail lights. It would be a step backwards IMO

            • Guys it's spec'd with LED tails and number plate lights. There's just been issues with LED number plate lights being advertised as being fitted with bi-xenon option on the GTI and other models but not being supplied.

I'm sure there will be no problems with the R as it's standard equipment.

                ^ LOL nice work Mikey1

On a serious note, can't believe that VW would exclude the R from the corporate program when Audi do so with the S3 (free servicing at least). With Audi dealers showing they're happy to negotiate S3 > R looking like a no brainer...

                • The same way some of the R pricing being chucked about is guess work, so might be the R's exclusion from the corporate program (unless someone has an official VW document confirming this point). I'd still be waiting a couple of weeks before making a decision.

As I said above, you can probably negotiate a bigger discount directly than taking the corporate deal; although Audi's free servicing gig will add up to a reasonable additional saving.

                  • I'm probably in the minority but i actually do not like the looks of the S3, and for me the interior is bland and boring.
Sure the performance may be better but looks wise i would pick and R over the S3 and M1, the A245 does look good on the outside but i dislike the interior of that car as well.

For me i think the interior of the GTI/R is fantastic and looks awesome. Wish they had the MK6 steering wheel though.

                    • Lack of Discover Pro in the R kills it for me, the base Discover System not up to scratch. This comparison video is a good one:

But would you spend an additional $2K for the Discover Pro? I don't think many would. In NZ, it's an extra NZ$2,750, while in the UK, it's another GBP1,015 over the price of the Discover Media. (All overseas prices inclusive of local taxes.) While it's annoying the standard system has such a low resolution display (240 x 400 pixels), to thumb your nose just because of this would be silly. At least find half a dozen other reasons...

                        • ^ Which is another plus for the S3. It has the bigger screen as standard plus with the option for B&O sound system and [later] Google maps. Sure it's a $5000 package but you do seem to get a fair bit for that outlay.

                          • Just was at the vw dealer. Although everything is official as of the 12th my dealership is expecting a demo in the first week of april and the prices to be told, at least to the dealers, around monday/tuesday next week (straight from VWA sales manager)

I'm the one who has posted numerous statements that the new Golf R will be excluded from the corporate program. While I don't have this in writing, I was verbally informed by Kirsten Bradbury, Customer Care Frontline Advisor, Volkswagen Group Australia. She obtained this information from Mark Joyner, who is the the Volkswagen fleet account manager for the company I work for. While I obtained this information in late January, you never know the decision could have been reversed between then and now. If it has, then it would only be because of perceived loss of potential sales. However, as you said, you can probably negotiate a better deal anyway.

Corect Ryan, my point was that the S3 comes standard with the full MMI screen.

Your point is fair Mikey and raises an interesting point: if you were to add discover pro to the R and leather you'd be right up at 'base' S3 pricing...only magnetic ride on the base S3 'missing' (the latter unnecessary IMO with the std 18's on the S3 and well sorted std suspension)
