  • Hi All,

In the process of ordering a MY16 Golf R, and have a few questions. What type of mileage (actual) are you Golf R guys getting? Living in East Gippsland most of my driving will be between 80kph & 100Kph, so just wondering how for you go on a full tank? Hopefully it will be a change from the Jeep Wrangler I'm driving at the moment and getting 14.7L/100K. Secondly, what's the sound system like? (bit of an audiophile). The local dealers don't have one is stock so I am trying to get an idea.

    Cheers

At those speeds on the highway I'd expect low 7s - I returned 7.4l/100km* when I returned back to Adelaide from Melbourne in December in an equivalent S3. That was a hot day so air was blasting as well. Throw in some stop/start or more enthusiastic driving and you'll move back towards double digits. In traffic expect double digits as the norm although that sounds like a rarity for you.

      * - as indicated by the car, I believe these are fairly optimistic readings though.

        Hey Luggerz

I'm not an Audiophile but I find the sound system OK.. needs a little more bass but its passable for me.

The S3 with the Bang and Olufsen system is definitely a lot better if you have the extra funds to go there

I've done 5000km in my R now in a mix of driving conditions and alternating between Eco and Race. I've averaged about 9.x l/100km and I think from memory I get about 460-500km on a tank (pump click off to fuel light on)

I would be guessing somewhere around 70K. We paid 65 on corporate rates for stock one. I think fully optioned going from 68K to 78K depending on your negotiating skills and whether corporate.

                    • The problem with all price threads is everyone loves to boast about a good deal and while a good chunk may be genuine you can guarantee overall it will often be very difficult to match some of the 'sweet deals'. Take the list with a pinch of salt.

Audi corporate was about free servicing, loan cars and a few other benefits - my Audi discount was purely on the deal; unlike my VW corporate deal which definitely held a discount factor on car price, albeit one that had halved from Mk6 to Mk7 days.

                      • So true. My R deal was improved by the keenness of the trade-in, rather than the sticker price paid for the car.

Do you need sedan? I'll throw spanner in works. If say fully optioned S3 at $72K and possibly could get lower spec Rs3 for say $84K is the RS3 worth 12k more? I was just thinking about this last night when person on facebook said minimal effort got $85K quote on RS3 and prob could have gotten lower.

I spec price of RS3 on car sales with B+O stereo, Nardo grey and Anthrite 19 rims and was $91,500. I'd guess could get maybe $83-84. I'm guessing features would be similar but RS obviously far superior engine, stronger DSG etc.

Expect around 10l/100km give or take 1 or 2 depending on type of driving. Mine is a full 2l/100 better than the Mk6 R was.

Stereo is actually very good for a completely standard system. I'm talking sound quality rather than the ability to blow your rear window out. If you listen to your music at a level that allows you to hear what passengers are saying it will be fine. If you like it LOUD you will need an amp and sub. I had a sub in my last car but don't miss is that much in this car. A sub and amp in the Mk7 would give really nice system.
