  • Where for art thou my coolant leak

    Hi,

Yea yea I know. Been here, done that got the t-shirt.

Owned 7.5 GTi since new (May 2020). Just had third service. At each service I've mentioned the dropping coolant level. Between services I've definately had to top it up.

Yesterday I presented the car with the coolant level below minimum (but not set off sensor) with a photo dated the day of the last service 12 months ago where the expansion tank was filled well over max. Advisor gets it, he understands.

However Post service same result. "We cannot see any leak"

Where could it be going that they cannot see it? What is my alternative? Any/all suggestions welcome

    I have the opposite problem.
VW say the thermostat is leaking, yet the coolant level doesn't drop. $1,800 to fix.

I've been lucky so far, July 2020 delivered GTI and coolant is stable. 3rd service coming up soonish.

I have heard in my short time in VW land that other people have experienced coolant loss but not a leak, not just seems to go somewhere else.

Regardless, if it was me and it was going down I would tell them to replace all the relevant parts.

Have you had it pressure tested by VW and no leak detected? Or have they just done a visual check and can’t see a leak?
        There is a big difference.

Has anyone any experience of these aftermarket all alloy w-pump/thermostats, currently advertised on Facebook (Sydney)? Priced at $500 or $1000 fitted. Not sure of brand or where they are made - probably China.

Pretty sure they'll find the leak at the first service after warranty expires!

These are for the Mk6 GTI era (EA888 Gen 2) engines, not the Gen 3 engine in the Mk7 GTI era cars.
