Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Apply Brake message - Car shut off

Just after starting the car this morning and cruising down my street a message came up in the cluster 'Apply Brake'. I did this and the car shut off. I had to put the car in P, turn off the car and turn on again. Fired up straight away and error gone, thankfully not a busy road and no other cars about.

The battery is 1 year old, AGM and shows good voltage so unlikely to be that. I don't take the car to the Dealer for servicing so any software updates have not been applied for 4 years or so. Not even sure if that may help.

Any ideas? Is an ECU firmware update possibly required? Is this available from somewhere to do myself.

I have checked the forum for similar issue and cannot find any reference.

    Thanks

Look at whatever error codes have been recorded, that might point you in the right direction to fix it.

Sounds like your car considers it to be a very serious problem if it is telling you to 'Apply Brake' and then immediately cuts the engine.

I did a scan with my ODB2 and Car Scanner app, at the time it happened it shows error code 10812 - Functional Restriction due to Pressure Drop.

Any ideas what this might be?

Thanks man I did see that. I cleared the error and will see if it happens again I guess.

Hopefully not such a serious one and won’t come back.
