OK Maybe I have worked it out It seems they have put the weong map for discover Media for PRE 2015 Golf's

HOWEVER if you put a POLO in it will give you the map in reply 2 on here and will fit on your card

So Do this Go to portal Select POLO 2014/2017 and Discover Media and using Discover Care download the map onto the card. Not saying it will work but no reason why it wouldnt.

If however you have wiped your VW card you may be in a world of pain


Also if it works PLEASE POST A CONFIRMATION SO WE ALL KNOW

@Flipper Dog: Hi. Please don't take offense because none is intended - but as information to others that might be looking for the latest map update for their MIB1 SATNAV on a MY15 (or earlier) Golf - the map above doesn't work!!

Purely by happenstance, I recently had a MY15 Golf owner arrive here at my workshop with exactly this request. I remembered this post and I loaded the file expecting much appreciation and gratitude from the owner. Alas my expectations were highly exaggerated!!

So, after a bit of tinkering - here's what I found (note for emphasis: these observations relate solely to the SATNAV SSD cards on MIB1 in MY15, or earlier Golfs):

• The file size for the SATNAV Maps must fit on the VW provided 8GB SSD card which has a security SID register as per @Flipper Dog post.
• The root-directory structure of the SATNAV file must be like this (note: I found a 2018 version that also had the file P48_N60S3MIBS2_ROW_NT.md5 in the root-directory)
  • maps/markets (the original VW version uses "maps" (I think) and the update versions seem to use "markets")
  • DBinfo.txt (this file contains the version-information text that appears on the MIB screen)
  
  
• not surprisingly, the "maps/markets" directory contains the regional data arranged in a number of discrete country-specific folders

I suspect that unless the update file contains this set-up, the MIB will not accept the new SATNAV version

Again, not intended as criticism, just information for those reading this thread in the future.

As i said try the 2014/2017 POLO map which is only a bit over 5 gb as I have found that maps go across models and I have used Skoda maps in my VW models for years and at present have used a T cross as source
for our Kamiq Maps and if you try to delete any map areas it wont work Been there proved that.

Don, I suspect VW are going down the lines like the RNS510 with their MIB1 maps and stopped support for our region to only include this with the ROW maps. Hence the larger map data not able to fit onto the 8GB OEM SD card. Unfortunate as the MIB1 does not support carplay/android auto for other maps.
The MIB2 maps show a different file structure so they are not backward compatible with MIB1.

Options I can see -
1. Try and find a larger VW SD card on open market place sites. This may work but be aware as the MIB1 SD card appears different to the MIB2 supported SD card. I am seeing V2 cards (5G0 919 866G) supporting MIB1 up to 03/11/2014 but this is only 8GB. 3G0 919 866S is a V4 16GB card supporting vehicles up to 07/11/2016 but may be for MIB2 only.
2. Flash your unit. Not recommending this as there is not enough evidence out there supporting this as successful.
3. Take up the issue with VW (both through the dealership service area and VW head office) to provide a solution to update maps beyond 2018. Mapping data should be supported for a minimum 10 years from when first introduced. So if VW play the 3 x monkeys than maybe talking to your local consumer affairs office is another step.
4. Time for an upgrade of the head unit.

Just an aside to all of this. Most GPS makers provide maps for "the life of the unit" which in the case of most is 7 years so our Uniden is useless now as was bought in 2008. So maybe VW are doing the same although there is a 2021 map for a RNS510.

Has anyone tried using the Polo method I suggested

Another suggestion is get a Skoda Vin from 2014 and see what they have on the portal as is different from VW but has the same maps.

MAP UPDATE SITE IS UP AGAIN but there are no 5GB maps for a 2013 model on there anywhere other than the one in reply 2 above and it is listed under a POLO before 2015

Yes, it was/is MIB1 and the underpinning architecture was most definitely a "MIB per se" (albeit it was/is an early version design).

In Australia, these units had the software version 5G0-035-846-A and the part number 5G0-035-846 (first incarnation) and later, 5G0-035-846-A.

Oh well I looked at every model on there so it seems they are no longer supporting the older models. I had a map for them but lost it when I upgraded my computer as forgot the stuff on my C drive.

Have found if you download the "DiscoverCare for Windows" onto your pc or laptop then use it for the updates it will select the specific regions / files required for your country.
Select your car, year and infotainment model here - Volkswagen Map Updates ..... DiscoverCare for Windows is will be on the page with Update Maanager as it's title - would do a screen shot but this software forum doesn't seem to like them. Create a shortcut on your desktop for ease of use once downloaded and extracted .
Have the SD card ready unlocked and inserted in an SD Card slot on your PC ..... start DiscoverCare and it will do the backup then download then install and confirm installation ..... takes the angst out of it.
Use it with no issues .... takes about an hour all up.
If you have a Mac then all you can do is try the DiscoverCare for Mac and see how it goes.
