Hey guys. I got quoted 1350$ by vw north shore to have my strut mounts and bearings replaced because the suspension is clunking at low speeds and around turns. Considering I’ve seen this type of work being done before the cost sounded crazy to me. It’s a 15 minute job on each side. And it’s a relatively small part. What are you thoughts on this quote? And what do you think is a fair price to have the top mounts and bearing replaced?

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Cost to replace strut mounts
Strut mount and bearings - that quote is insane. The parts can be purchased from AutoInstruct for about $250 and you can change them yourself if you have some basic tools. Otherwise 1-2hr labour cost from a mechanic.
I did them myself recently on my Mk7 GTI.
With you being in Sydney there are so many independent VW specialist mechanics you could use.
As for your brakes quote, that seems reasonable for genuine disks and pads and labour. But you could buy aftermarket disks for about $150 and then high quality pads for $100-150 and get the mechanic to change them at the same time you do the strut mounts and bearings.Last edited by Lucas_R; 31-07-2021, 05:17 PM.
