  • Fault Code C10AC07 for Mk7.5 R

I bought my OBDEleven a few months ago, scanned the car and up came a steering mechanical malfunction code C10AC07, there is no warning on the cluster.
I had the 2nd service today at Solitaire Automotive in Adelaide and they stated that there was a software update that would rectify the error and they would need the car for 1.5 hours.
Has anyone encountered this code before and fixed it?
    Appreciate your advice.

    whoman: Hi.

Error code C10AC07 is static steering mechanical malfunction. You might be interested in reading THIS (I couldn't find a TPI specifically for your car - but I suspect that the .PDF document applies to ALL MQB platform vehicles). Check the version software in your hex16 module.

    Don

PS: 1.5 hours to repair seems somewhat conservative - but it might be their minimum time

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

      Thanks Don
      great info, appreciated it.
i'm suprised no one else on here has encountered this on their Mk7.5's.
the car is under warranty so i'll book it in next week and hope the upgrade fixes the issue without effecting anything else!
will let you know how it goes.

Solitaire did the software update yesterday in 1.5 hours with no issues. Got home and rescanned the car, error message gone.

Not sure if these are screen shots you're after? Both are using the OBD11 app, in the Control Unit menu, selecting Steering Sssistance 44. The first picture is the info screen and the second picture is the history screen.
Check (if you live in usa): WeeklyAd2, or Aldi Catalogue.

sorry to drag up an old thread.. but you wouldn't have the description of the work they did? I have it on my 2018 golf and vw service didn't really have a clue except to just monitor as the steering was ok...

                @farQ: Hi.

Are you saying that this car has an error code C10AC07 - static steering mechanical malfunction? I've highlighted the word "static" because this error code should have a confirmed status in the dealer tool ODIS- meaning that the fault should be permanent even after fault memory is cleared.

Of course anything is possible and this error code could be the result of an actual failure of a physical component in the steering system - and it may NOT be a software update problem.

So, if VW service is saying that this is NOT a software update issue and given that the error message is already static - what additional information is the dealer suggesting that is likely to be provided in the "just monitor the steering" suggestion?

I'm clearly missing something about this error message!!

                Don

                  Hi Don,

this is what was on the job sheet. Mind you i updated the MIB software a while back and hadn't cleared the code (which i have cleared now after the service)

C10AC07 code logged, customer scanned and this code was logged pls check
"Carried out checks - Found fault codes logged relating to 5F unit - due to aftermarket instrument cluster installed (well this is incorrect as i only updated the MIB software and did not install an aftermarket instrument cluster! lol)
Also found fault C10AC07 mentioned - power steering control unit static fault - Test plan result, replace steering rack - unable to confirm if fault also triggered by aftermarket instrument cluster.
Visually steering rack ok - power steering operating when tested, steering not heavy. To be monitored."

I am going to ask them to update the software and replace parts if that doesnt work, whilst the car is still under Eric Warranty Insurance.
And also link them this from VW US: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...69517-0001.pdf

@FarQ: Agree that asking the dealer to "update the software" in the first instance is a good suggestion - albeit I'm not sure that the dealer will get the OK from the insurance company to "replace parts"! But it's worth a shot!!

The problem with the TPI (Technical Product Information) link in your post is that it's from NHTS (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). NHTS is an agency of the US federal government.

This means that the TPI relates to NAR (North America Region) vehicles, which are built different to the RoW (Rest of World) models that are sold in Australia.

But again, it's an easy try asking the dealer - so worth a shot!

Well the dealer wants to charge me for diagnosis.. i thought they did that already? I only provided reference to the TPI as i'm sure there would be one for Aus as the OP got his fixed under warranty with a software update.

Anyway, i am now chasing with insurance on the process...

FarQ: hmmm............ TPI's from VW are NOT the same as a recall - but if one exists which says that a software update is needed to fix this problem for an Aussie built Golf, it would usually be honored by the dealer (because the dealer would by paid for the work by VW)

Maybe an alternative approach might be to contact VW Australia and determine whether a TPI actually exists for your car?

Its no longer under VW warranty, so they charge a diagnosis fee. I am going to go ahead with a diagnosis so they can work out what they need to do.. hopefully my warranty insurance will cover the costs

So car went in for diagnosis. Master tech said there was a software update to fix the issue. Service advisor apologized that they missed it at previous service and updated it as workshop goodwill. Clearly the previous tech didn't check properley and fobbed it off to the 5F infotainment error.... it's fixed, but shouldn't really need me telling them how to do their job...
