  • Rear diff whine?

Friend of mine is looking at buying a MY11 R manual.

Only issue after 2 test drives is a whine coming from the rear when coasting at 60-85km/h. Sounds goes away when throttle is applied.

Thoughts are rear diff, but could be tyres or bearings? Though bearings seems unlikely as its only for 46K km

Anybody have an idea what this could be?

A few R owners have had rear diff failures and more with Haldex failures.

The whining noise suggests its the diff.

Had a superb in yesterday with the same issue. I wouldn't be touching the car. Differential replacement is $8k for the part alone and then factor in labour.
