Ta mate. If you have VCDS, the module scan will show it.

The coding is completely different in mine maybe the MY12s are a bit different or yes just the US/Canadian ones. There is probably a combination there that works but it would take some time to work out plus there are some weird errors that pop up when you try and plugin different digits, in fact even when programming the original digits the module seems to have an issue at times so I think VCDS is a bit dodge in this area
You can disable it other ways but it affects steering and ABS stuff too, so can some single gen Y member with VCDS get cracking and sort this out for us

          Disable ESC on Golf R

          Hi Guys,

I've tried searching and not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but my Golf R let's me disable ESC at stock.

Is yours a manual or a DSG?

When buying mine a good mate who owns a manual R warned me that the ESP in the DSG models couldn't be turned off completely. A test of this theory on some dirt roads recently confirmed that although the car says 'ESP Off' in the MFD, a forced slide (ie handbrake flick in the middle of a corner) will cause the 'inactive' ESP to intervene and ruin the fun.

Did you use a different process in this video to deactivate the ESP other than just holding the button?

              How to Disable ESP

The manual provides the details of the function of the switch for the TCS.

Press for approximately 1 second and TCS is disabled.
Press for approximately 3 seconds and ESP is disabled.

Remember that it is disabled to the extent that VW have programmed in. It will enable itself should conditions that VW have determined for it to!

Depends on the age and region of the car I thought. Some can do it that way, others need to be hacked.

MY12 post June 2011 build cars allow the ESP to be disabled - but it's only in a suspended state until you touch the brake. Cars before this date cannot have the ESP disabled. MY12 cars with specific ABS controllers can be "hacked" to ensure the ESP remains off even after touching the brake. See the posts on the first page of this thread.

As a few of us have found out the hack does not work on our local cars

You can tell its a DSG because you can see the "P" in the top right hand corner of the MFD display indicating that the car is in Park.

Thanks. I will now be suitably embarrassed for not noticing that.

Well I am still embarassed but I also discovered something new today - our white MFDs are actually multi-coloured...

Apparently this message is so important that it needs to be flashed onto the screen every few seconds, hiding the selected gear indicator and taking attention away from the road you're trying to drive without ESP enabled.

There is coding to disable pretty much all the systems, its just not documented - you have to work it out.

We had the ability to disable the MK6 GTI some 3.5 years ago.

No doubt, that was useful ....and for a Golf R, which is the thread topic
