  • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System

    Hey Guys,
I was driving along earlier tonight and a warning light came on randomly. I don't know what it is and am going to call the dealer tomorow to ahve it checked out but i was wondering if anyone could give me some info prior to going to going to the dealer tomorow.
It's the yellow light that is pictured as follows: It has an exclamation mark surrounded by a yellow circle that has an opening at the top. It is on the speedo not the rev counter side.
If anyone happens to know what i'm going on about please do help.
I'm going to go find the manual and try figure it out.
    Cheers

I would've thought that would be step 1... Your manual will probably know more about that icon than anyone on here.

Find the manual - it will tell you. Pretty sure it's the tyre pressure indicator. Go to a service station, check the pressure in each tyre, then press the reset button in the glove box.

I had to do it the other day even though the pressures were fine.

The manual is in your glovebox, shouldn't be too hard to find. You can even pull it out when the problem occurs and see if you can continue driving safely or not!

BTW your warranty doesn't cover you if you ignore warning lights and keep driving.

It's your tire pressure indicator, it thinks one tire is low or there may be a fault in your system.

Check all tires as soon as possible and re-set your system (hold down the button with the ignition on until the indicator goes of and you hear a ding)

The system works of your ABS and it mat have been that one side of the car was on rough road surface.

I was trying to give my passenger a thrill by running along the white line rumble strips, that caused the thing to go off (the alarm, not her). I just checked my pressures and re-set the system and haven't had any issues.

O.K so i checked the tyres today and they were all at around 40psi. Is that the right pressure?
I put them up to 42 just for the sake of it, but yeh.
Now i went through the manual and it says the button to reset them is on the set where the esp button is located. Only thing is, i only have the esp button there....no other ones....where do i find the button?
                  Thanks again.

The TPMS reset button is in the glovebox.

Top right of the inside of the glovebox, next to the manual slot - which you should really read more closely. Has the same symbol as the warning light, with SET printed below. On the MKV, the button used to be behind the shifter.

Question about the TPMS and new wheels (+ tyres)...

How will this be affected? Will it be inactive? Will you get a constant alarm etc unless you disable the TPMS with Vagcom?

It'll be fine. Just like after you've checked your tyre pressures at the gas station, you just press that little button hidden away in your glove box (in the MKV and my Polo you would hold it for a few seconds, the car will give a notification tone and flash a light), and then you drive away. It is now recalibrated.
