    • Hi all,

I'm currently in the market for a 103tdi comfortline. From what I can gather there's not too much difference between the MY10 and MY11 models and also, is there anything that I need to look out for?

      Thanks in advance.

Very few changes, and the TDIs are pretty solid. You should be fine with either an MY10 or MY11.

Have had a 2010 since new - make sure the air cond begins cooling soon after you turn it on (not after a few minutes delay)..

Aside from that just a proper service history (but you already knew that)..

Funny you mention that, because my Jetta has that issue, which has been very annoying with the wet weather this week.

Just need to find the right one...

This. My MY10 103TDI had the exact same issue, developed half way through a summer spent in the country, not fun when its 38-42+ degrees erryday.

AC Compressor failed, replaced under goodwill, quoted $3k (parts+labour) to do it outside of goodwill.... and this is why I still get VW to do my services :p

Don't know about the Jetta but the MkVI can develop what's been called in various places on the interweb as a "lazy compressor"... The compressor is a Sanden item (a pretty reputable Japanese company - even if the compressor itself is made elsewhere)... The culprit appears to be the Refrigerant Control Valve (RCV) which mounts on the compressor...

Like moda VW replaced my compressor, receiver dryer and did a regas under goodwill... The fact VW does the goodwill thing so readily would indicate this is a known issue..

                • Hi Guys

I have in the market of buying a 2011 GTI in vic.. I have read the forum its been great help but I now want some more in depth advise. I have found a 2011 MK6 DSG GTI with the following details
                  • black on black
                  • 52000km
                  • very clean
                  • 3 door
                  • orginall valued at 30950 he has dropped to 26500

Is that price reasonable in VIC ? Also I have heard that there is a major DSG and oli service at 60000km worth roughly 1200-1400 mark that he has not mentions

At the end of the day it is almost a 4 four car.. I have driven the car and i really like it but there service cost of 1500 is too much. Should I ask for a the price to be dropped or is the value at 26500 already low for what is worth.
If someone could give me advise that would be great

                  • If you need a 4 door & buy a 2 door you'll be regretting it until you sell it.

I have no idea on the price but a 3 year old car will have dropped 35%-40% off the RRP by year 3. Has it got any options?

The price of the service is what it is. Find a good independent VW specialist & it will be a bit cheaper but more importantly, done properly.

I'm shopping around for second hand MKVI GTI:

                      Hi all,

I'm shopping around for Golf GTI MKVI.

                      Here are my preferences:

                      - DSG
                      - Leather
                      - Detroits
                      - White or Red
                      - Other options are a bonus
                      - Less than 70,000ks
                      - No accidents
                      - Needs to be in a Very Good Condition
                      - Willing to pay low 20s, and willing to travel interstate for the right car.

I have the cash ready so PM me

I suspect you're going to struggle to find a car in very good condition and relatively low mileage for low 20s. You should be able to find a good 2009 or 2010 with few options and 60,000 on the odo for ~$25k.

                        • I've found few in vgc but they didn't have leather or were wrong colour.

                          • Hey guys,

So i'm currently on the market for 2011 Gti. I have come across this one, just wanted some advice on what you think it may be worth.

                            2011 Volkswagen Golf GTI MY11 Direct-Shift Gearbox

Going to inspect it tomorrow, however if I intend on buying it, I will most likely use a professional to inspect the car.
Is there anything specific I should keep an eye out when inspecting the car?
Do realise it is an automatic, which I am fine with if I can get it at a good price.
                            Any advice is appreciated!
                            Thanks

                            • The "Second Hand" / "2nd Hand" MK6 Golf Thread

^ its a bit exe. If you can get it for around $23k then it would be ok. Looks like the only option is the gearbox which was about $2500 charge. No bluetooth/sat nav/leather/reverse camera etc?

We paid $19.5k earlier this year for a 2010 GTI with 55,000km, white, manual, reverse camera.

Also bear in mind its not an "automatic" gearbox as such. The gearbox in these is quite a sophisticated unit and is actually a manual gearbox with a computer that controls the clutch and gears for you (thats putting it simply). They are a good gearbox but factor in $600 or so every 4 years to have it serviced.

                              • Thanks for the quick reply Lucas. Btw, I am extremely inspired and impressed by both of your cars and modding. I hope to gain the same amount of enthusiasm and skill one day. Yeah I was surprised at how cheap you were able to grab your Gti at, have seen nothing close to that value yet.

23-24k was the figure I had in my head, however most of the sellers have been reluctant to drop the cars that much thus far. Hopefully it is a different case tommorow.

Yeah, I have had a quick drive of the DSG and done a bit of research on it. I was planning to use the 45,000km service and the DSG servicing as leverage to reduce the price a bit (60km is the first one I believe).

Is there anything I should keep an eye out for in the mechanical side of things, like in the bonnet?

Thanks for the reply, appreciate it!
