LED Number Plate Lights

I've just installed it. It's too bright! I need to make some mods to lower the brightness because it's stealing the thunder from my R tails.

Did you install the R-Dash lights? Really... too bright?! Bugger... I've just ordered a set! How bright is too bright... and how can it be fixed? I was hoping for subtle...

It's bright like, if I were to accidentally break some road law, im quite sure everyone will be able to see my rego from a mile away. I'm going to try black tape half the light to reduce the brightness.

If it's too bright, I'm sure that some "window tint" will probably fix that.

It was mentioned somewhere that led numberplate lights for the gti were standard on the MY11.5. Anyways, that is incorrect.

Great idea, but won't that change the look of the "white" light?

Also, if it's standard on the MY12, why can't we just get the led globes or housing of those and then recode to remove errors?

Doesn't matter, the bi-Xenons are by far and away the best option on this car (maybe besides the 18s, the awesome factory Bluetooth and the dsg). It transforms the look with the DRLs. Every time you catch a glimpse of you those in the reflection of the bumper of the car in front at the lights you'll smile. Trust me! It's only been 48 hours but I'm as in love with this car as I was my R32.

P.S: my wife is out with the car now. I'm quite nervous, so I'm tackling a bottle of wine. Last time she took my car to the movies she ground two of my brand new rims on my Clio Sport against the curb. Gutted. But I made her buy 2 new ones

No, it should be fine. After all, people have been tinting headlights and taillights for years and it's fine. Use a "grey"/"Charcol" tint and it'll be fine...

You can... it's been discussed earlier in this thread. The problem is:
1) they're more expensive, around $100 for the pair.
2) they're (randomly) giving error codes with <MY12 cars, and there is currently no VCDS fix.

Thanks for clearing that up. That cost I'm assuming is for new housings as well. I guess I'll wait, as I don't want to look like I'm driving a mobile solarium.

yea the Xennons look awesome, and very happy the LED DRLs were introduced to MY11.5! i saw a GTI on the way to work the other day with the Xennons+LED DRLs and they are very eye catching and look quite good think i might just leave the number plate lights as they are, not too fussed by them being what they are.
