  • That's a lot of coin for basically a Pirelli.

guess I should have spent more time on this site prior my first golf purchase rather than post. Feel like I've done my dough....hope I like it!!

Actually $55K was what the Pirelli's were retailing at until the GFC hit and then the dealers started discounting after that. If you add up the same options on a regular GTI, you would get to about that price.

Finally a purchase to bring this thread back on topic. Congratulations mate. Without doing the math did you get anything off the sticker price?
Also, what was the motivation for an Edition 35 - were you hanging out for one or did you go in to buy a golf and get upsold to a 35 Edition? Now how to tell the wife that only one of the kids will be going to University ;P

You made a decision according to your budget & likes so it's always the right decision! Only God knows how much $$ I've spent on over priced cars over the years

This statement says something about dealer margins & how low they can go down from RRP.

I've been "researching" a new car purchase for the past couple of months. Originally i was way off base looking at extra cab utes and the Amarok came on the radar. (we already have a Passat Wagon) Over beers with my social influencers two weeks ago they set me straight and in a moment of clarity i locked in on a Golf. There are a few in the extended family though no GTIs or Rs. So i thought GTI would be a better choice and i liked the fact they had been around about as long as me. My inital research...about 10 days ago uncovered that an ED35 we about to go in sale so i thought why not. Might be something a little different but still a GTI. I figured also it had a few things i would want to option on the standard GTI so no skin off. I understood only 200 were coming to oz so rang a dealer in chatswood. They said they had received an allocation of 6 cars. They only have one and a half left and it was wrong colour and spec for my liking so i rang another dealer and they had what i wanted. It felt to me that there wasn't going to be too many of these around so i better not stuff around. So i paid a deposit over the phone and they sent me the paper work. Done. Discounts are something im usually pretty good at but in this case the marketing worked and i felt like supply and demand were not on my side so i just agreed on the rack rate.

Im getter close to picking a favorite daughter...have three and will be focusing any remaining money on her education and general health!

                  Appreciate the above supportive statements.

You'll be fine, look after it and treat it right and you should get a decent resale value given its rarity.

Yeah - don't let all the peeps tell you that you paid too much. As you've found, they are selling quite quickly, despite you being only the first forum member to have purchased one. When there is demand like that, you will almost always need to give up huge discounts, simply because you don't have as much negotiation power. If you're happy, then that's all that matter

                      • Well done crops, from what I have seen on the marketing info etc they are a really nice set of wheels.
I am going to put a holding deposit on a Scirocco R this weekend. Just so my name is on one of the initial batch coming in Feb / March 2012.

                        • You've got a rare beast and like a lot of the early posts pointed out - it's not just a slap on bodykit and a different pair of shoes.

Limited Editions Golfs and Polo Gtis - two cars you won't get a discount on at the moment.

I'm actually hoping for a bit of an economic downturn. Beers get cheaper, dealers get more desperate, and maybe, just maybe I'll be able to buy a 1 bedroom shoebox in Sydney for less than half a million.

                          • Does anyone know if the leather option also includes heated seats?
I can't seem to find much information anywhere other than the press release...
