  • Xenons (RRP $2100?), LED tail lights, more power, unique trim, those tasty wheels and presumably higher resale value. I reckon they're a good deal for $3000.

I'd be annoyed if I'd just bought a regular GTI .

also add the 175kw/300nm instead of 155kw/280nm to the equation

Also add that for just $1000 more you can have a 5 door golf R.. I think id rather spend $50k on a golf R rather than 49k on a glorified GTI

          It's 173 kW.

I ordered a GTI (spec in my signature) for $52,750 on road. I talked to my dealer today abt 35th Edition and he has one in "CW - DSG, sunroof, satnav and leather" for $54,500. Not sure if that's a good deal?

And i am just not much convinced with it (ed 35) for some reason!

          Would appreciate any comments.

Ditto! You can move on price now with R's as they are so common....

SChan.....see if the Gerald Slaven boys will let you get an R for your '$53k onroad' GTI. You might need to drop a few options though....but, the R is a higher spec car 'out of the box'.

I got my manual candy white R with the black talledagas for $51.9k drive away.. So drop the wheels gets ya to $50,100 . I think the wheels were 1800..

So for 1 more thousand over the ed35 you get better looking led lights that actually suit the car.. Better components in general. All wheel drive, and more of a "race feel" .. Trust me.. Get a normal GTI or an R.. Don't waste your time on an overpriced ed35 because it has a badge..and I'd be very surprised of you could get a 9-10% discount like you can on the normal GTIs or the R range

                Mi16 Man,

Thanks for the suggestion mate. The above pricing is from GS. I will do some research on R tonight!

I was quoted 46k drive away for a 35ed with sunroof and DSG without any haggling. Take away the options and it starts to become a bigger step-up to an R.
I haven’t driven a 35ed, but aside from terrible axle tramp I prefer the way the GTI drives over the R. I also like the looks of the 35 more too.
It’s all personal preference though, so your mileage may vary.

                  • If you're into modding, the ED35 engine would be a better base to start from - look at the Mk V Pirelli; I'd be in one of those if not for those ugly, ugly, tyre-tread seats. That said, a normal GTI with a Stage 1 tune is more than enough to keep most people happy.

If you want a complete package, the R can't be beat for value. However, the GTI is 'enough' for most people.

all depends on the price point, drive away at $46k, is good value, if its an extra $1k for an R, then the R is the better value.

as for 173kw or 175kw, depends what article you read, and never thought 2kw mattered.

Yes, 2 kW does not really matter mate.

And thanks to all who provided their opinions. Much appreciate that.

I think i am going to stick with my order.

                        • There's a white 35 manual for sale on showroom floor at DVG Melville in Perth. Saw it this week. No budging on price as they will 'sell it anyway'. Nice. Wheels fussy.

                          • Popped into Denlo Parramatta the other day, sorting out a small Bluetooth issue on my car. Noticed the 1 x red ED35 with a sold stamp on it. Anyway on here buy it?

                            • I'm pretty sure I saw a 35 Edition (candy White) yesterday. Driving down Parramatta Road near Broadway at about 6:45pm. Rego: NXT 98D. Anyone here?

Also, the latest top gear has a review of the best bang for your buck under 45k (bit of a stretch considering they never include on-roads etc.). From memory the line-up includes the Mini Cooper S, Alfa Guiletta, MX-5, Citroen C4, WRX, GTI 35 Ed, and the Megane RS 250 standard (not cup trophee').

The Megane takes the podium but only just. They are very praise-worthy of the 35 Edition.
