No real flexibility on the price, a bit of a case of "if we don't sell it to you we'll sell it to someone else pretty soon". I'm probably not the most price sensitive person to start with though and I've got some good contacts in the finance side of things so I'm going to save a bit on that side.
As for the details on the car I went for, it is the DSG, black and apart from that is basically the standard edition 35 per the press releases. I didn't really have a choice on the options, it was more a case of what stock they had coming in, but I can live without things like a sunroof and leather seats. That stuff isn't too important to me, its the driving that is!2011 Golf GTI Edition 35

Hey guys, spoke to the dealer this afternoon (managed to get past reception this time). Looks like my 35 is in-country and with Patricks (in fact, has been with them since mid-Aug). Apparently should be ready to go within the next 10 or 12 days. Still waiting on attachment of the compliance plate and the wash/vacuum according to the tracking details on the dealer portal. VIN has KZC halfway through, which should be a MY12 based on information in other threads.
Not long to go now....

Good to know they are getting closer! I’m actually going to be overseas until 10 October, so hopefully will be able to pick up my GTi when I get back.
Out of curiousity, I just spoke to APR to see if they had received word on any available tunes for this car – I wasn’t sure given it’s a GTI with an R under the hood.
Well, for $1495 the Stage 1 tune will increase the kw from 179 to 229, and increase the 300Nm to 439Nm! Holy ****. Anyone know what that will do to the car in reality? I know very little about this stuff but that torque increase seems huge. Will the rest of the car be able to handle the extra grunt? What sort of testing do APR do with these tunes before releasing them to the market? Before I did this I’d want to know it wasn’t going to cause any great issues. Definitely seems like $1500 well spent though!

Was getting the shakes so took White DSG for a test drive this afternoon. The rep told me my Ed35 was ready to roll, they were just waiting for VW to have their local launch. I'd get my car the next day. Honestly i don't know how you guys can weight 3 - 6 months for your R's! this is very difficult

Ours must surely be close then, if the dealers are getting their stock. I got the same story as crops when I last spoke to the dealer (Monday), the car is ready to go but hasn't yet been "released" by head office and won't be until approx. the 30th.
