I have a few crappy ones on the phone that don't really make it look that bad but I'll tell you now..... the rear end of these cars are amazingly strong! The car that hit me up the hoop was a Suzuki Grand Vitara and his nudge bar was about where the radiator should be!
I stopped before the car in front but was rammed into it all the same so front and rear damage plus the right hand front panel and the exhaust pipes. The front of the car copped a big ass tow bar so all the radiator etc are royally screwed
Still trying to work out how to upload pics.

honestly, i dont think they will write that off. any reason why u would think they would write it off. it has to be "repair costs beyond a certain financial criteria". usually more than half. also, if the chassis is damaged. but it looks like a pretty std shunt
i did this back on 2001, brand new s2000.
cost me $65k, took 6 weeks for insurance to payout, and got a brand new one, which was $70k as price went up.2011 cw golf gti 3dr man-tint-rear cargo mat-weathershields-bluetooth-mdi-19" oz racing ultra leggera-mcgard lockbolts-boston acoustic pro60se-jl audio xd700/5-jl audio bass tube bb-w060p- titanium exhaust tips-eibach custom pro-kit-OPS-OSIR cf mirror covers and cf front lip-dieselgeek short shifter

Well the only reason I say they will write it off is because they told me it's looking that way on the phone. The car has been towed to the auction house where the write offs go. Now, I'm not saying it isn't repairable, but there are two types of 'write offs'. First is probably what you S2000 was...... totally unfit for repair! Second is called a commercial write off where by the car is repairable but will take a long time to fix so they pay out the claim (new for old or monetary) and then repair and resell the car to recoup some of the cost. This is the way I was explained it over the phone. I was a little incredulous since the damage doesn't look that bad (but is worse than the photo's show) but apparently they don't go to Pickles unless they are pretty much a no hope....... otherwise they take them to a repairer and have the assessor go out there.
Anyway, will know more by the end of the week and have a Adidas secured just in case.

Did the airbag go off? If you get rear ended, pushed into the car in front, AND your airbag goes off, then it's almost instantly a writeoff.
I was rear ended in my MKV GTI, pushed into the two cars in front, but my airbag didn't go off as I was leaning forward to grab my drink bottle from the door at the time I was hit from behind.... it was still a write off, but they had to start taking it apart to realise...
Having said that... after looking at your photos, they're nowhere near as bad as my Golf was, lol....Last edited by Corey_R; 30-08-2011, 09:37 AM.

unfortunately for you, i dont think there is 45k worth of damage to your car.. so they will fix it. theres not enough to cause it to be a write off unless your chassis is bent and engine has been damaged.. its going to suck if they chose to fix it! will never be the samenom nom nom

Well, got the word today that it is actually not that bad! The rear is where the hit was and the front is pretty superficial. Apparently, it looked worse cause of the towbar and it will be getting all new radiators and intercoolers etc but nothing is bent. I was only going about 50 before the accident and stopped so what they recon was it felt worse than it was cause I haven't been in an accident before :-P Nothing in the chassis is bent, the front LH and RH guards aren't even moved so it was pretty minor shunt that they see everyday.
Still would have preferred a new car (who wouldn't??) but it's good that it's pretty easily fixed :-P
Thanks for all the advice fella's..... turns out I was over reacting a little

See, people say that, but whats the difference if it doesn't have the original bumper and **** that came with it??? I understand if the chasis was bent or the floorpan needed banging back into shape but honestly, you wouldn't know the difference if you drove it and didn't get told. Oh well, either way, I mustn't have the disposable income of some of the guys on here cause I couldn't sell it and replace it even if I wanted :-P

I guarantee you it will come back in pristine condition and run fine.. the only thing that may present are the rattles and rubs as VW have a bit of a rep for that anyways.. but then again the repair job may fix the factory issuesCurrent Ride: MY 16 Daytona Pearl Grey Audi S3- Performance Pack 1, Sunroof and Driver assist

Thanks mateYeah I had a Celica back in 02 and that was in an accident where the front end was bashed in a fair bit more than the golf (I wasn't driving fortunately) and it came back better than it went in!
My car is with a panel and paint joint here in Perth that mainly deal with Lambo's and Masserati's. VW (Allianz) insurance are the best I have ever had and the fella said there were no panel shops down my way that he would trust with a high quality car. They apparently separate the shops into categories and mine went to a 'prestige' repairer. Now the wait is the only bummer

Hey folks,
I bought an Edition 35 on the weekend at Berwick Volkswagen. Took the GTI for a test drive and asked them about the 35 and they had a look at what stock they had coming in. They said they had 3 Edition 35s coming in, one in black, one in red and one in white. I took the black one. They said they weren't sure of the date they would be here but he believed it would be late September.

Good thing I wasn't in the market for a Polo GTI, I can barely manage a month.
Spooler, if distance is no object, could try Denlo Parramatta over here in NSW. They still had their entire allocation free when I was looking around...possibly because their answer to "what can you do for me" is "we won't budge, not a cent".2011 Golf GTI Edition 35
