The S3 uses the Golf Rs motor and vice versa.
MK5 Pirelli GTI uses K04 turbo & EA133 engine, and even looks better! haha

sorry guy, I was presuming with the reflash you could raise the cutout limit so you can get more revs and thereby hit 100 in 2nd

On my FPV, I got an extra 500rpm added before cutout

what's wrong with the 6-sp in the VIII (i assume you mean). not to take it off topic, but i was under the impression that the aus spec 8 was quite a bloody brilliant car. the gearbox gremlin's only were apparent after owners started pushing massive power through it.

              Australian EVO VIII's didn't receive a 6 speed gear box, only a 5 speed.

ahh yes, i stand corrected. then in saying that, the 5-sp is the stronger out of the two.

It is raised up - but the level you would need, the rods dont like to stay attached to the crank from what I understand

                  • Another thing to consider is that the RS250 also has to change into third to reach 100kph.

To me, rolling acceleration is more important, DSG won't fix that, The R is the slowest of them due to weight & possibly drivetrain losses.

I look forward to picking up a cheap Rs250 in a couple of years to replace the GTI.

That's not to say there isn't ANY good drivers/authors. I saw one guy on CARADVICE who wrote an excellent article. They can be found, but some just do it on the side as a side hobby.
This is exactly the case with motoring writers - they are JOURNALISTS who have an interest in cars, not expert drivers who write articles. And very few have much high performance training or race experience so they generally aren't great for exploring the limits of cars. They are good for giving daily driving impressions for ordinary people rather than enthusiasts.

All of this applies to motorcycle magazines to an even greater degree.

Each gear change in a DSG in 'rolling acceleration' shaves off time due to the use of only 8 milli secconds each gear shift. A manual needs a few tenths mate!

                        • Yeah i know how that works as I own a dsg GTI but if I'm overtaking in 3rd 80-110 in, manual or dsg will make no difference.

Dsg makes VAGs more efficient overall but at the expense of enjoyment.

However I do enjoy driving manual.

                          • You mentioned rolling acceleration originally, not just 80-120..... hence my response.

                            • This thread was good for a laugh...

The biggest chuckle came from when someone mentioned "the R badge's heritage"

Would that be the heritage of: being slightly pudgy, understeer-y and somehow less than the sum of it's parts suggests it should be, but damn it sounds good?

Cos if so, they have dropped the one thing that was a positive!

This is the most honest post I've read so far about the R32. Most people would be too polite to say what they think.

R32 owners keep harping on about the (justifiably) sexy V6 growl. But fact is that the R32 was nose heavy and not as good a car as the MkV GTI or current R.

Most R32 owners must wear heavily rose tinted glasses.
