  • Hi guys........recently got inspired to look abit harder at the Scirocco from the BM vid. Went for a test drive in a 2door R back to back with a chipped GTI (199KW) and even though the GTI was noticeably faster, the R was so much more composed. The chipped GTI struggled to put the power down and quite frankly at this age axel tramp isn't kool anymore. I'm guessing a reflashed Scirocco would have the same issues.

The money is now backing a 2door R taking into account long term modification potential and resale value. Would be interesting to find out how many 2door R's have landed thus far.

Probably. But if I had to pick between new Elantra's interior and this, Korea wins. Not as OTT and busy, especially the middle stack.

Not really the topic for this thread, but the 2door (3door) Golf R is no longer able to be factory ordered within Australia, so you're basically stuck with whatever models are still on the dealers floors... so if you are interested in that path, you'd be best to do the call around and pick something soon

              • It's actually one of the cars I'm looking forward to seeing in flesh when I go in a week's time, although I've already seen the normal Scirocco overseas.

The "width" of the floor area of the boot in the Scirocco is apparently 1005mm - only 1mm less than the Golf.
However, the "length" of the floor area is only 707mm compared to 828mm.
Thus the overall boot space is only 312L compared to 350L (seats up), or 1006L vs 1305L (seats folded).

Thus, I would hazzard a guess that if your Golf clubs fit within the width of a Golf, they will in a Scirocco too. If you have to put them at an angle, then you may not....

The only problem is the height of the boot lip on the Rocco, it is rather high so one would have to lift the golf bag to about chest height to clear the lip. While with the Golf, you only have to lift it to waist height. One just has to visit the gym a bit more often.

I suppose this isn't an issue for tall people. I'm 5'7

Flights booked for Saturday..... The Rocco is the ONLY reason I am going, I will get the chance to compare it against GTi and (hopefully) a 5 door R in the same space. No doubt with 200,000 other people if last years Sydney Motor Show is anything to go by.

                          Who else is going?

                            • Will be interesting to get an idea of the seating position in the Rocco. Just my personal pref, anything to add to what already is a pretty good driving experience is a plus.

Hmm so much to see in this price range.

I haven't booked but mrs works for qantas so it's easy.

                              • Ditto, I love the shape and I have seen plenty in the flesh when we were in Europe last year but I want to sit in one etc etc before placing an Order. Hopefully they will have indicative pricing etc available.

I had to use the lure of Melbourne Retail therapy for my other half so we are on a 7am flight from Sydney and leaving Melb at 8pm which gives me plenty of time to wander the Motor Show and snap plenty of pics...Sounds decadent doesn't it... Flying in to view a car at a Motor Show
