VW Scirocco for Australia. Any Golf R buyers thinking of swapping?

Anke has said that it'll be here. That part is correct. From then on, the entire article is just speculation and guessing based on what the Scirocco is overseas, and what the Golf R is here. Keep looking at different motoring publications and see what I mean.

the scirocco pioneered a lot of features seen on the mk6 gti. Are you suggesting the mk6 should be taken off the market cos its too out dated?

That doesn't change the fact that it is built on MkV platform with a MkV interior. Oh, and that is 4 years late getting here.

But you could say the same of the mk6 anyways... What is insulting is that they havent offered it before, not that they are offering it now.

But yeah you get my point.. It has more in common with the mk6 than the mk5. And the mk6 is a current model.

Doesn't the scirocco use the rear suspension etc from the Passat.
The dash is EOS if I am not mistaken.
Engines, transmissions are Golf 6 spec now (AFAIK)

By the time the Scirocco is out the Opel Astra GTC will be ready. That is one nice looking car with 200kws and FWD!!

They're built in the same factory in Lisbon too. Not suggesting that this is an indication of shared parts, but if it looks the same...

I spotted a Rising Blue Scirocco on Southern Cross Drive in Sydney around 5pm today.

There has been a blue Scirocco and a green Scirocco (both TSI's) in the country for over a year or so now. There's also a black Scirocco R which was bought in last year around the Motor Hot Tuner Challenge time. They're all private imports though.

I think VW Aust has answered the question: 5 door R buyers are after something different to 3 door buyers. Clearly they understood the scirocco was going to butcher 3 door R sales so they killed the 3 door knowing the 'roc would fill the need. If you want a 5 door, AWD, current hot hatch you are not even going to consider a 2 door, old tech fwd setup.
If I had recently put a deposit on a 3 door R for 3 door reasons I would be pissed right now!

I am not sure how you would consider the Scirroco R to be "old tech"... Same Engine, gearbox combos as Golf R. Same Electronic LSD as current GTi, wider track etc.

To be honest, if the Scirocco hadn't been announced I would be looking at ordering a 5 door R but now I am waiting until my friendly VAG Dealer lets me know he can accept my Scirocco order... and it has nothing to do with AWD vs FWD or new tech vs old tech or even how fast either will be around The "Ring" but more about how it looks...

The vast majority of people couldn't tell an R from a GTD but they will certainly be able to tell a Scirroco from a Golf...the fact that for all intents it will go just as hard as an R (in everyday situations) is an added bonus as far as I am concerned...
Each to their own though....and if I remember rightly there were similar discussions between 3 door and 5 door Rs so around it goes again...
