    • Both great cars, Golf R has rear doors on offer should you require them, Rocco is a bit more stylish, VW sure know how to capture the market!

True track cars have engines in the middle, so let's not split hairs over these two wonderful hatchbacks. Again VW offer something for everyone.

apparently, australia has race tracks that are comparable to the nurburgring?

and yet, stupid ****s here are paying 2X the cost for a tune, because they've been duped into thinking that somehow, conditions here are so much god damn ***ing hotter than in arizona or alabama etc...

so whats it gonna be? by all counts that anyone in the world cared about for the most part, the rocco is superior to the R.

        YOU ORDERED AN R.

        dont get defensive.

i drive a diesel. im not attacking you. im merely saying....

i would have to agree with this 100% bcm.

            • This might sound odd, but the incognito look of the R is what attracts me to it.

Ditto. It was mentioned many times in some of the R threads that the reason many of us liked it was becase of the subtle looks.

If they bring it out, then they'll just have another model to suit more people.

Hmmm. You may have solved any future energy crisis. Just need to work out the best way to convert kids into fuel.

But seriously, I don't need rear seats and a production version of the Scirocco with a mid-rear engine could be fun.
If you dig a hole and it is in the wrong place, digging it deeper isn't going to help.

Nurburgring (Nordschleife) is a great track BUT it definitely has an advantage for AWD cars, the track surface is relatively poor, it has alot of bumps in and out of corners. Therefore AWD would have alot more grip around those areas. You would find FWD/RWD cars tend to have relatively slower times there.

Yet all the fastest cars there are RWD?
Even the Porsche GT2 (RWD) is significantly faster than the Turbo (AWD), and the GT2 doesn't have THAT much more power.

+1. Exactly why I left WRX land and bought a golf.

The fact that it punishes the Scirocco on the most famed track in the world is just another bonus to it's sheeps clothing.

I don't care what the advantages are and for whom. It's advantage Golf R, and it's faster there so that's that. Just like on smaller tracks the scirocco is aster.

The other hectic champion, why are you talking about d7ck sizes etc when your ripping out your own issues on a car your not buying?? That's just eludes me. Also try and be a bit more polite. No one will think less of you if you do.

Anyways, the point is, I like the Golf R a lot more than the scirocco. If I wanted to cancel I would have no problem doing so. But I don't want to.. Cause I like the Golf R that much better.

I don't need to say that it looks more of a posers car, or it's FWD or that the Golf is the **** on the Ring. Cause it doesn't matter, it's just my opinion that, I like it and think that its better

                        • I don't think the fact that the GT2 is RWD has much to do with it's faster Ring time. The GT2 RS has close to 70kW more power and over 200kg less weight to carry around. Plus it's raison d'être is motorsport use so it's chassis is setup to suit, whilst the Turbo is meant to be a quick luxury road sports car and is setup accordingly.

In the end though does it really matter if the R or the Sirrocco is faster than the other round the track? I'd wager that 90+% of owners will never even take their car to any sort of track let alone use it competitively where the difference between the two would mean anything.

I'd say the packaging of the cars would have more influence on a potential purchaser's decision than lap times around a track that mean bugger all to the day to day driver.

                          • I laughed when i read a post concerned for kids, ever heard of a Mid life crisis get a Harley Etc etc, this car doesn't seem like it went through the process of design to be meant for kids to be in the vehicle, maybe if you have one kid then passenger for sure. This car looks well suited to the "Boy Racer" and i'm glad this is happening a 2 Door option only is what VW need for a "Concentrated market/Niche"

As there is always the choice to buy the Golf R in a 5 door...A Scirocco R in a 5 door would look....scary at the least (in an ugly sense think Shallow Hal)

Heh, I am not one to pass comment on the Roc, never came up as an option, still not conviced it will though there is some noise around it. The arguement around 3 door and 5 door is moot, fit for purpose I say however arguing a 3 door convienience over a 5 door is just silly.

I love the idea that the Golf R 5 Door is a sleeper, even the badges are subtle so the middle age challenges of family juggling and the want for a refined finish is packaged beautifully. At my age driving a WRX Sti or an EVO or even the Megane just seems far to try hard.. the Roc takes it to a whole new level of "why.?"

Nope would never consider a Roc but happy to admire it from afar as the impracticality for my life style is too much..

I disagree slightly. I think it does matter what's faster around the track to an extent, partucularly to an R owner. it is the sports model (hence the R badge) and pay through the nose for the extra performance they get over a base or lesser model.

Just look at how many people want or have the APR tune.
