The highly anticipated new Scirocco R is coming to Australia in 2012. Enter your details and keep up to speed with its arrival.
Doubt it. The earliest is 2014. Tweaks are minor this year and the last major change to the models was October 2009. Revised engines in line with other VAG models such as Blue Motion are on going maturity progression.
Demand for the 3rd year running is still outstripping the VW factory in Portugal despite uping the prouction rate 8 weeks ago. The pace of sales to existing markets hasn't cooled since April/May 2009. Waiting is typicall in Europe 14 weeks plus - sale to delivery at the delealerships. If its an "R" its anythning upto 12 months at the extreme.
Some of the R delays are because the assigned production batches such as for the UK have outsold extremely well the alloted numbers.
You won't be dissappointed when it arrives though!

None are made in Germany or elsewhere despite what may be found on the www. All variants of the model including the R are made together on the production line.
They've been turning out about 45,000 units each year in Model Years (MY) 2009, 2010, 2011. 2008 was a part year at just over 30,000 units. Increases in production 8 weeks ago will only make about an additional 5,000 to 10,000 units per annum for 2012.
I suspect the Mk4 in 2014 may be transferred to the old Karmann assembly plant at Onsabruck, western Germany, along side the Golf Cabriolet production just started there. The old Karmann factory has been refurbished by VW after Karmann went into liquidation and has an available capacity of 100,000 units per annum at present.

That's exactly what I thought (followed closely by "that can't be good").
just curious, does it really make a difference where the vehicle is assembled? don't get me wrong, i'd still very much like my cars to be assembled in Germany.
on a side note, wonder if they'll bring in the 1.4 Rocco eventually. great for those (like me) who wants a rocco but dont need the power of the R... nor have that much dough for one atm.

yummy
This is really interesting. Last month I traded up to a new Golf GTI, I said to the sales guy I would hold off if the Scirocco was likely to come to Oz. He said he had dinner with the VW Aust MD the night before and there was no way it was ever coming to Australia. She is the person quoted in the article.
Goes to prove the saying, never trust a car salesman.
To the people earlier discussing about 3 door v 5 door Golf's, this is my opinion on the matter
well I currently have a 3 door '98 Barina, it wasn't my first preference but I couldn't hold out any longer without having a set of wheels and just purchased it, atm im saving for a Golf R 5 door, yes 5 door and I am only 23 and should be able to achieve my goal in over 1.5yrs at my current saving plan,
now some people would be saying "why you getting a 5 door?" well for me, spending nearly $60,000 on a car, I want to get the maximum amount of use out of it, for many years to come and the 5 door option would allow me to have a smart practical car now, and it would also allow me to have a practical car when I start a family and the car would also hold its valve over a long term,
also the 5 door option is more practical for me due to being able to place larger items into the car, say a mountain bike, allow for an easier time for moving house with boxes etc
I did look at subaru's and Evo's but I feel the build quality just aint to the standard of VW and they arent visually as appealing as a Golf
and the option would be when Im older working full time and have settled down I would like to purchase a 3 door so I can just use that to travel to and from for work and have some fun
Owning both 3 dr and 5 dr Golfs, the 5Dr is definitely and logically more practical. But the 3Dr just looks so much better in profile and more like a hot hatch.
