Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Yes - I bought some without checking the size of my existing caps....the eBay ones are too small. My dumb fault for not checking.

I bought some R badged ones one night for no reason

They look good but don't want to stick them on if they only last a few weeks

The Lexus had features cars coming out now dont even have, more than just folding mirrors. The car was so long and wide that it needed needed the folding mirrors to fit in a normal car spot. It had a 5.0L V8 which was silky smooth. Good cruiser but rubbish around corners. It was an awesome car for what it was!!!

But I like my R better

              • Anyone interested in retrofitting a colour MFI screen? Suitable for Mk6 Golf cars made after November 2009 (doesn't include mine)

Or get the R-Line one for the same price:

                • I saw those and was *VERY* tempted. Installation looks straight forward (although there is no talk of what coding might be needed). If I was getting one I would likely go the R model just for something different that the stock red I have now. I was quietly hoping the new Cabriolet would come with that display anyway... sadly not

With a new baby due next week I should really cut back on the expenses... but soooo tempting for such a subtle yet awesome upgrade

Anyone looked at the bluetooth options on that website?? They look pretty cheap too

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

                  • Maybe connect up VCDS and have a browse and see if anything stands out, otherwise ask those guys or RossTech.

For them to have that many for sale there has to be someone who's done it, probably on another forum.

                    • The colour cluster might not need coding? The other gear they sell like the rear parking sensors with OPS states coding is required? Good price for the sensors too!

When activated the light changes from red to orange.. Pretty cool as I had thought the thing only lights up red (like the TCS button) so yeah it was a nice surprise:

Matches the orange glow of the A/C buttons.. Very OEM

The fog lights really do improve the look of the car.. They’ll definitely come in handy when the F3 gets fogged up at night..

Great job on the lights & switch, I am looking to do similar. Can you share what fog lights/assembly you went with (eBay seller?) and do you have the wiring diagram/instructions you used.

I am going to install the garage door opener switch as well.

                          Thanks

Hey mate.. I can't take the credit.. My auto elec mate did all the wiring for me!

I bought the lights from these guys (Jumbo Depot on eBay): 10 VW GOLF MK6 TDI TSI JETTA GRILLE FOG LIGHT LAMP KIT | eBay

I already had a set of fog grilles from john 118TSI's mk6 part out from a few months back, so i only bought the lights from these guys. Can't comment on the grilles you see in that ad.. But they should be ok..

Just a warning as well.. The bulbs that come with the housing are rubbish! They heated up and died within a few days of installation. I've replaced them with Philips 9006 HB4 Power2Night +50 globes.. They are excellent.. Longer, whiter, brighter beam.

I too am looking to put some 19' Talladegas (Black) on my CSG GTI. Did you have much trouble with it all? Did you fork out the dollars at the stealership or manage to find a private sale? If you buy them from the dealership will they help you out with installation and balancing or will you have to pay them a mint on top of the already huge price of the rims to get it done?
