Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hey Ryan,
Got a brand new torque arm insert sitting here at home if your interested.
Fitted it for a day and got rid of it. Bit too harsh in drive at idle for me.

Anyone else had the same ?

Your car's looking great. Got any videos showing the CAI noise while driving?
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

          • I'm writing a quick short experience of mine recently purchasing a Milltek exhaust from a local distributor (a sponsor here on VWW) vs a friend who decided to go direct and purchase it from an overseas distributor.

I ordered the exhaust 2nd week September and was advised that it will tentatively arrive at the end of the month, September. To which I agreed to the tentative time frame knowing that I will be around to pick it up when it arrives. To date, I am still receiving unconfirmed dates as to when it will be here. That really isn't my problem, what have frustrated me is the total lack of communication partly due to the fact there are too many middle men. Little did I know, making this order from this distributor would then be passed on to a local retailer/workshop and it then becomes the responsibility of the last party in the chain to service my requests. Each time I ring up to get an update, the retailer will have to email or contact another person. They are not able to advise me a shipping tracking number, delays if any, etc. I am now heading off overseas for 2 weeks for work, and if I do not receive it tomorrow I will be requesting for a refund.

On the other hand, a friend who made his purchase overseas, received a tracking number and was much more well informed over his purchase.

Local retailers are whinging about how sales are crashing in Australia, I now understand why. Again, I'd like to highlight, not all local distributors/retailers are the same for I have also had some very good experiences with some.

They are not bad people, just I believe the process could be clearer. They have taken my full payment, I realised should have just been a portion until I pickup the goods. I'm not trying to shame anyone hence why I'm not revealing names but just wanting to share an experience of buying locally - there are also risks.

Thanks for sharing mate, although that's a bit OT for this thread. There's a fairly lengthy thread on this subject in the Tuning section, you might like to have a read and contribute there.

                      • Just installed these door sill protectors ordered from a Chinese eBay seller.

If anyone is thinking of getting them, here's my experience - Overall, the quality is very good, but as most things like this.. the fitting is not quite 100% (fronts are fine, rears not so much). They came with double sided tape attached, but I had to buy some more tape and cover all of the back to get them to stick well. They seem quite well attached now but have a feeling they may come off one day. Looks good and very functional if your prone to getting the sills scratched by boots.

PS - the dent marks are from me hammering them - they arrived bent in the mail. Seller is sending new ones FOC.

                        • Has anyone had any experience with aftermarket weather visors? I see this set available, attached using tape. wondering if this is a reliable system for external accessories. Also would the shields interfere with my Thule roof-racks, which are pin-located in the front.
This is the description of the visors

                          • I have bought the genuine vw weathershields for my gtd and they are very secure. They are not as cheap as the ones on ebay but they are effective and come with good installation instructions. They are also tinted. I haven't had any experience with non genuine ones.

                            • Genuine ones are affixed with 3M tape as well. Just need to make sure the surface is super clean with metho/similar and attach them on a sunny/hot day, then don't drive for 5 hours as per what the dealer told me.
