Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Adam (and anyone else thinking of getting the floor mats), i can assure you that they are very good quality (much better than the OEM mats). Im extremely fussy with my car, so i wouldnt be saying this if i wasnt 100% satisfied with them. You will love them.

    - OEM plastic clips/mat holders for the front mats
    - nice quality carpet
    - variety of colours for outer bordering
    - GTI / TSI / R etc logo patch on each mat
    - non slip rubber backing
    - heel pad available

FYI - mine took about 2 weeks to arrive after paying for them.

    • I actually prefer the rubber genuine mats from VW. I tend to put too much water and dirt/mud onto carpet mats, and they look like crap after a while......same goes for the rear mats where school kids get in and out of the car.

      • The forum just makes you want to buy more. Here is a list of upgrades I have done to my Mk6 GTI

        Revo Stage 1 Tune
        18" RS6 Replicas + Continental ContiSport5
Bi-xenon + LED DRL headlight upgrade (coupled with Morimoto 3Five D2S)
R LED taillights (tinted red + fog light)
Colour matched fogs with 8000K halogen bulbs
        LED license plate light upgrade
Akrapovic linkpipe + slip on system with CF exhaust tips

That's what has happened so far but looking into these:
        VW Monster mats
VW GTI scuff plates (recommendations anyone?)
Revo intake OR Forge Twintake (if it fits)
Revozport front bumper + LED DRL fitting coupled with CF front splitter
        KW street comfort coilovers

          • Find me a set of two door scuff plates which do not say GTI or R on them?? Seems finding something for the cabriolet is harder said than done

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

              • Close, but the cabriolet is a 2 door so needs the longer scuff plates, those are for the four door vehicles.

Problem is until very recently the only two two door options for the Golf were GTI and R, so that's all there is.

Even searching the Scirocco ones which might be right end up with results that have R or Scirocco on them.

Eventually there might be some Cabriolet let ones floating around.... *fingers crossed*

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

                  • Lockwood charge a fortune for freight outside the UK (I've bought some gear off them before) so make sure you know up front.

As for CF, please don't. CF had it's day.

                        • Well, sending someone to a company that charges 1-3x the price of the product on freight is a world of pain

Still, good on you for throwing up links

Following Lucas' example I did buy one of those key surrounds. Will see what it is like when it arrives otherwise will give it away to someone.

Also decided to buy some paddle shifter extensions (after reviews of the various types on the two main forums)

                          • Which paddle extensions did you go with?

                            • Key Surround..?

I looked at paddle shifters and thought I didn't use them enough now to warrant the energy, let me know how they go..

Was looking at some eyelids for the lights.. but they are in CF which I don't want, if they came in RB I would think about it

                              • I got a ripper deal on some silver finish Maniacs (to match the interior trim) though a Usenet group I belong to.

I didn't want CF or grey plastic so these worked perfect. Will see how they look when they arrive in a few weeks.

The local Viezu dealer is the distributor for the S2T shifters but I didn't want them after some comments in the forums and the effort to get them installed.

SF -these insert into the ignition surround (hollow underneath so they sit flush)

I got a black one from a guy in the USA (mate in our old home town in Geneseo is sending one over with some other stuff so no freight cost) I think online they are around $15 plus postage. I got one for $7
