Maybe it's just me getting used to it (i.e. all in my head), but the more kms I put on the car the better the gearbox feel and change seems to be getting.

And remember kiddies, getting a manual means that the missus's driving privileges are goooone.

Are you talking the manual or DSG here, I see you have both. I think the 7speed DSG is improving with age. (12000 kms now)

Sadly, Mrs cme2c has been driving manuals for 30 years or so.

The manual is the one getting better with kays.

HWP had VN V8 with the 5 Speed manual. So about 20 years ago in SA.

Sounds about right, just before it became an OH&S requirement for police cars to run autos.

Just took the mk6 GTI DSG for run through the Gold Coast hinterland (Mudgereba, Springbrook, Numinbah valley for those that know it). I haven't taken that route since changing from the mk5 GTI manual and it makes a big difference. The route is all tight hairpins and short sprints which means constant gear changing. I found that in the manual I gradually got fed up of gear changing but in the DSG I loved it. I had been a bit concerned about the choice of DSG but on this road it was perfect (for me). Both hands on the wheel firing from corner to corner was brilliant. I still think that stringing a few corners together with a manual is ultimately more satisfying but I could have driven those corners all day with the DSG.

coreying, thinking this might be a place for this question...if not, sorry...but, is it possible to replace the shift knob on the manual? I know, it's not that large...but thinking that by putting a smaller knob on, would make it seem like a shorter, snappier shift

btw, question is directed to anyone ...just mentioning corey as he may want to move the thread

The more I use the DSG, the more I like it.. I actually prefer manual mode using the gear shift..it might be just me but it seems 'snappier'. I still use the paddles from time to time and when stuck in traffic I just leave it in 'D'. I say don't knock it until you try it!

Sure, OSIR Design have a Silver Illuminated Shift Knob and will soon have a Black version too.

I'm not sure if they're shorter than the original, but OSIR claim that since its heavier than the original, it smooths out the shifting...
