Does it matter? That's why I said "get real" Are you going to boycott or complain to CD manufacturers about it?

If you were to rip a CD as WAV files to your computer, then burn them back as a CD with a competent CD writing program, you'll then have opporunity to write the "CD Text". If you do that, then the car will display the Artist/Album/Track info like it does with MP3s. At least it does on my RNS510.
But if you're already doing that, you may as well burn a data CD with MP3's as Ryan_R suggested.

Yeah as Ryan_R mentioned - almost no comerical CDs include track titles.Originally posted by mvw View Postanother strange feature (or lack of) is the inability of the CD player to display the name of the album or the nam of the track
so with 6 CDs loaded you can see "CD 1 track 5" or whatever
i can always transfer the cds to my iPod and this WILL display track and album info OK, but it kind of defeats the purpose of the CD player...

When you rip music from CD to your iPod - the computer looks up a special ID of the CD and then downloads the names from the Internet - obviously the car can't do that. Some special CD's have 'CDTEXT' that can display limited information (if you have ever made audio CD's in Nero, etc, you probably have seen this).
Best option is to burn an MP3/WMA data CD - you can fit around 150-250 songs on a disc with all the text preserved.

I sorta liked the fact that only I could see the time when I had the RCD310 - that and the fact I got a writeen weather forecast and could see what new songs were playing in case I wanted to get them later - but I was always going to upgrade to the RNS510.

lol, this has never ever happened to me. now that you mention it i suppose it's a good point, if you want it. couldn't you just tell them?Originally posted by mvw View PostI have MFD showing the time - it is the passengers who want to see the time
they can't see the MFD

'at the exhaust blat the time will be: 3:10pm' grrrowwwwww *blat!*'
or you could hang a clock from the rear view mirror.

The user interface is far from intuitive. I gave up working out to switch music using the steering wheel controls because it required too much thought and therefore was distracting. #designfail
With regards to the time, I use the MFD to display the time.

thanks Corey_R, done all that, the dealer said "can't display time with RCD-510"
also tried changing the option for "next" - it got me to where i am now...it was even stranger before that...
not sure of the interface design on the RCD-510, it isn't a major issue, just strange...

Hey mate, have a look through the setup menus.
I don't have that model, I've got the RNS-510, but in the setup there is an option for for time display. There is also an option for whether the "next" button on the radio navigates to the next present, or the next item in the FM station list.
