So just playing the devils advocate the DSG R would have seen it in the top two positions for the acceleration 0-100 400m etc. CBF doing the math but you get the idea. Win some on bang lose some on bucks.

Yeah tested the GTI on the weekend, amazing package and excellent value. Performance is above adequate with a build that belongs to a $80k car. Deserved win.

Re-read the BFYB article and what I found interesting is that the reviewers found the WRX brakes and the suspension set-up so ordinary again! This has been pointed out numerous times in other reviews, yet last year the WRX took the BFYB podium! On my WRX test drive I didn't find a problem with the brakes, yet the suspension did feel a little soft and could have used some stiffening.

Now if Subaru upgraded brakes and suspension with the new WRX then next years BFYB should be very interesting, however given their rules on new models the Golf's won't be included, wonder if they can get a 'Roc for the 2011 BFYB ???

The GTI is great with a stage 1 tune, certainly feels faster than a stock R (not sure if it is or just feels more fun?).

At the same time, I'm happy that I payed the extra $4000 for the Golf R. Much quicker than the GTI, especially after the Stage 1, yet more composed and balanced. It is the right decision for me

Well, not the same car. I'm sure that people who buy R see the value in AWD system that has superior handling to that of the 2WD cars, especially in wet and in other slippery situations. Also it will be able to get more power to all 4 wheels without slipping, if you go to tunning path. I just wish it was symmetrical drive train.

Personally I think it's amazing they considered a GTD in the challenge let alone arguing about who won. Good to see three VAG cars in the lineup, speaks volumes.

Also, I'd give my left nut for AWD over FWD....

It's more like 10k, you have to compare base model to base model.

Can end up being more if you go overboard on options too.

Either way both are good cars and depends if you want to spend the extra and the GTI would be just as good 90% of the time and better around town.

Great if you like a high centre of gravity, suspension that gives you a floating feeling and the GTI engine tossed in to liven it all up!

Suspension work fixes that up very quickly ... in fact my Tiguan is no slower than a GTI around a nice set of bends, having driven a MK6 GTI and my Tiguan back to back through it and in fact is quicker than a GTI through really tight corners as its gets the power down much better and earlier coming out .....

Had to hold the Tiguan in to prevent it from running over my astonished mate in his APR DSG MK6 GTI going up to Mount Mee .... best was when we switched road position I left him behind ...... AWD and chipped 2.0T is a great combination .... and at the right price as well ....

And the DSGs in the TSI Tiguans are the new 7spd 550NM units .... not sure if they have paddle shifts or launch control.

And Maverick, happy to extend the invitation again ... bring your GTI and I'll happily show you what a Tiguan's taillights look like ... now that I've driven the MK6 GTI across MT Mee, I'll even extend that to the track of your choice .... its not quite a challenge to theR around a track yet .... but certainly so for a GTI ....

But that's not a stock-for-stock comparison. If i spent some money on my shopping trolley Skoda (or on upgrading a Golf GT Sport) it would beat a stock GTI too.
