Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I have got over the rattle but it still detracts from what is otherwise a flawless car. I'm looking forward to hearing the last of it!
they also have the skoda octavia vRS to fix.....same ea888 engine.

i'm not counting on VwAG to come up with a fix. they'll just make sure the next gen models have this rectified.
i could suggest a fix, as long as VwAG pay for it - "upgrade the k03 to a k04 turbo"
    hehehe....yeah right. i know.

i'll just have to contend with being partially deaf to rattling sound/noise between engine speeds of 2000-2500rpm

    • As per the previous page, there is already a fix. It's now just a case of getting that fix disseminated down to all the countries, manufacturers and models affected. Patience

      • golden opportunity for a VW aftermarket/service (non official) company to import/install clips for MK6 GTI owners..

I know I would book it in..

          • OK Guys, please read this carefully so everything is clear.

I have been in contact with Volkswagen Parts and it is not available to order in Australia. I have asked them to follow up with VGA and VAG Germany to get it available to order in Australia and advise on a cost.
They will be contacting me once they've been able to determine this information, and I'll pass it on to you all. Please be clear, I'm not saying that you guys should order it and pay for it yourselves - I'm saying that if there is any chance of having your dealer install these in your cars, they need to be able to order them! Therefore it needs to be in the Australian parts system and have a price.

            The part number is: 06J145220A
Whilst you can't yet order it within Australia, you can order it overseas. It is now available to order at ECS Tuning.
Here is a direct link to the product page.

So if you REALLY CANT WAIT for VGA to work out what's happening, you could order it in yourselves. Note that it's not the cheapest "clip" you'll ever buy and the shipping is just as expensive as the part if you are ordering a single clip. Though, if you could get 10 or 20 people together and order them at once...

Or just be patient and wait for VGA.

Here are pictures of the part for those who have not yet seen it:

And here is where it installs:

            • fantastic work Corey, I still cannot believe this wasn't picked up/resolved earlier though.. and just with a simple metal clip..

so on a serious side would anyone be interested in organizing a group buy? im sure we could get 20+ if it does actually fix the rattle.. then we would just need to organize a VW workshop to install etc.

still have some hope that VWA will solve the issue but I would rather do it sooner than later.

              • Assuming the clip does end up getting stocked here, and assuming that its covered with warranty by the dealers... isn't it better to wait and save $140 + fitting?

that's around $150-200 that could be spent on something else?

from my experience with other companies, they are usually not (if at all) interested in resolving an issue which would not actually cause any damage.

so if its between me paying a few hundred to remove that rattle vs waiting an unknown amount of time if ever, id rather just pay.

but then again I hope to be proven wrong by VW of Australia and will keep my eye on this thread

i'd b keen on a group buy, if possible.

                    • So i gave my GTI a proper belting today, and guess what? No more rattle. Maybe it just needed to clear out the pipes. Could be my rattle was a different issue. Will keep an ear out for it.

Considering you were saying that the rattle was coming from the back, and this thread is about a rattle on the wastegate which is on the engine in front of you, it's not surprising that you have a different issue

The noise travel down the exaust so it can sound like it's coming from the rear as well.
