MK6 GTI - Rattle upon acceleration - Resolved via TPI: 2021062/7
The part is now available to order from Volkswagen Spares. The details are:
Part Number: 06J145220A
Description: CLIP
List Price: $78.95 + GST
Stock: 0 available in Australia. Back order from Germany.
So we're making progress. HOWEVER!!!! As the description is simply "CLIP" and there has not been an "news updates" or "technical service bulletins" to the service departments, as of yet this is not a warranty procedure. If you'd like to call your VW spares and order it and install it yourself, then go ahead.
I'm still working on the 2nd part of the puzzle - whether Volkswagen Group Australia will recognise this as a warranty situation (btw, does anyone know if Volkswagen in another other country has recognised this as a warranty situation? I'm having trouble establishing that. It'd be very helpful information if anyone can assist. Ta)
I need one Golf GTI owner from Canberra who has this rattle, can demonstrate it, and is willing to take some time (within Canberra) to have this looked at. I obviously need someone who is completely sure that they have it, and that it's coming from the wastegate etc. Not someone who thinks they can hear it sometimes, or "maybe it's coming from the rear" etc.
Can you please PM me and let me know. I'll update this once I've found a suitable candidate so other's don't waste time PM'ing me.
excellent - its officially in vw oz's parts pin
if u need some volunteers (in canberra) to demonstrate this wastegate rattle, i'm more than happy to help. i know - not a mk6 golf gti, but i have the exact same engine/transmission - hence the exact same symptoms.
i've pm'ed u.

Just putting my name down as interested in a group buy if this goes ahead. Would be even better if Skoda did it under warranty but I don't like my chances considering even VW haven't come to the part yet.
Ok guys. We now have a suitable candidate with a GTI and this rattle in Canberra. I've got a few backups too. Thanks for everyone who PM'd me.
The part has to come from Germany, so it may be a few weeks before there is an update. It could take a further few weeks whilst VGA go through the process.
Again, if you can't wait, you can now order this part from any Volkswagen Spare Parts (or Audi spare parts btw), and then install it yourself. The details are:
Part Number: 06J145220A
Description: Clip
AU List Price: ~$78.95 + GST
A reminder of what it looks like and where it installs:
That clip has been fitted to earlier model vws and Audis. Surprised just reading this. Some storeman will be getting his fingers wrapped for not issuing the correct bill of materials.

Took the GTI out tonight for a run to test this rattle. Definitely notice it whilst the audio is off and accelerating, I wouldn't really call it a rattle though. It sounds more like faint 'buzz'. I'm definitely up for getting this clip installed as I can see it getting irritating cause it distracts me from the great exhaust note
Will bring it up with my dealer in the next week or two and see if they will do it under warranty now that the clip is a VW part.

Got a call back today from VGA about this issue. The gentleman I spoke with spoke with the technical department and has advised me that VGA are aware of the issue and have escalated it to head office who are investigating a fix, and once a fix is available VGA will be doing a recall. I'd be surprised if they recall for this since it's not a safety issue. I asked him for timeframes, he gave me a loose 'few months'... I advised him that overseas seem to have a fix for this already, so why is it going to take a few months to get the fix to Australia? He is investigating and getting back to me.
I think I might have heard this faint buzz\rattle under acceleration today also along with the whistling water pump. I will speak to VA about this when they call about this pump. Will try and confirm it is definitely there first. Seems like a minor fix. If the case I am hoping the dealer will fix when they do the pump.
Ferni, when he calls back as if the part is supplied to the dealer should they be installing it for free/will they even install it?
Cheers
still waiting on my clip should be here tomorrow but couple k left til I have to book it in for a service
He called back and changed his story, saying that there is no known fix and no ETA and that's all he can tell me. I told him (nicely) that answer wasn't good enough and that I wanted to escalate it. He said there is no one to escalate it to, i explained there is always someone to escalate it to until I get the CEO of VW Germany on the phone say it's normal and no fix will be provided. He has gone back to see if he can get any better information for me.
Ferni are you giving him the VAG part number and the VWoA TSB that I provided in one of my earlier "blue" posts?
Cause if you're not, you're kinda wasting your time. The VGA person is correct - no fix has been issued to Australia. The part is here, but no technical fix document. If you're giving them the info on the fix, at least they've got something to go on, instead of trying to find a needle in a haystack
