Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • rattle from day 1, 'adidas' gti.

I initially thought.. that's not so bad, but then I drove with the windows down and was thinking yeah that's pretty noticeable.

not enough to stop me from enjoying the car, but its something they should look at fixing..

i reckon!!!! i have heard people say it is part of the "characteristics" of the car..ive also heard dealers tell that bullsh*t story. It really irritates me because it always gets in the way of the turbo wine and the exhaust sound. Please someone tell me how this can be fixed!

Yes, MY Adidas has this rattle....freaking annoying and i hate it...that is the only 1 reason why i wish i didnt buy the car. Makes me feal sad that one of my favourite cars in the world is letting me down, still no fix for it? still gonna be there in future models? then im gonna have to go to a Toyota corrola (jokes!)

Like I have said so many times in this thread, right now it can't be fixed. Unless you get aftermarket turbo/wastegate installed. The problem is with the acuator rod ...

                  • I got told by a Volkswagen mechanic today that it is the downpipe that makes the noise ?

So any aftermarket turbo will fix it?

                        • Its definitely the Turbo, my 2004 Astra Turbo has the same K03 turbo and made the exact same noise.

Cant VW fix it???????? this is ridiculous

                            • No nothing to do with them not being able to fix it, they just wont. I have had dealings with Volkswagen Australia and its been to the ACCC with no result. The fact is that the rattle is not causing any damage to the car, its cosmetic only and for that reason they dont need to fix it. Unless it can be proven that its causing the motor damamge. Its NOT the turbo, its the acuator rod ... VW have confirmed in writing to me that this is the cause of the issue. I have also had an independant mechanic look at it to see if they can fix it.

You can replace the acuator but you will need to replace the turbo as well because the assholes at VW decided to permamently attach the two to each other ...
