  • Peeps,

Went out to play last night at WSID. Learning how to make best use of the LC wasted a few runs but in the end it all came together
    on the 3rd run.

Man that's a fantastic time! 13.330 is really tidy.

What KWs did you get at the wheels? And despite the 2.0 60 foot time.. Still did really well. this tune must be alright..

And you beat whatever you were running even though they reacted slightly quicker!

Did you beat em over!? What was it?

          Rexman,

Yes, it felt fast from the get go.
Not had it on dyno yet but Vortex are arranging a day on the 16th April and I will be attending for sure.
The other car was my son Sammy 125TDI in his 177kw's ATW Mk6 Golf GTi also GIAC chipped. He was not happy.

There's a ton of misinformation going around here...

Fab's Gtech is an older, non-GPS equipped device. It operates solely based on accelerometers, and is therefore prone to error. The current model has a 10Hz GPS chip and the accuracy is claimed to be much better. Having said that, I've not yet seen anyone do a series of runs at the drags, whilst using a new Gtech, to compare the times. Corey, step up to the plate!

I have a new Gtech and have done several runs with it. Where it seems most likely to fall down (and then, only occasionally) is in the initial detection of the run start. It still plots the speed/time many times each second and these values can be queried from the device. If your run looks too good to be true, check that first plot point and see if the car's travelling too fast for the time. Once the car is moving and the timer is running, I'd expect the Gtech (and other GPS-based devices with a decent resolution) to be very accurate, assuming strong satellite coverage.

From memory, that video shows the speedo, right? In which case, you can forget about accuracy. My personal opinion is that a GTI with stage 1 power should, in ideal circumstances (read: very cold, low tyre pressures, great launch, all fingers crossed) be capable of mid 5s.

A well-launched GTI might get an impressive 0-100, but it won't manage a great quarter (certainly not in the order of what you stage 1 - 2 R guys will get) because the K03 really runs out of puff up high. If anything, the GTI is better for the short and sharp traffic-light GP.

Fantastic run wooduck, congrats on the time and the tune. Does the timeslip record the 0-100 time as well?

I don't feel sorry for Sammy; 13.6 for a FWD manual GTI is pretty damn good IMO - tuned or not. That'd have to be a bitch to launch hard!

              • That's a cool time woodduck. Last week when I was there, everyone was complaining about the conditions. Sammy didn't break the 14 second mark on that night. I managed a 13.617 which I was happy with given the times and remarks from others there on the night.

Night was cooler towards the money run. I want more now though.

AdamD, no 0-100 as that is a speed measurment inside the car.

                    Makes sense.

No drags here in SA. I'm going to have to do a Sydney run just for WSID.

It did, but AIR is closed AFAIK.

Hi Adam, the car is running the STOCK K03 with a GIAC tune. And yes, its a bitch to launch

Corey, it turns out the reason i couldn't get the power down the week you were there was due to a broken pendulum mount. The car was axle tramping and wheel spinning through 1st and 2nd gears. The last visit before i broke it saw 13.9-13.8's all night. I installed a new Volkswagen racing mount and it took 3/10th off my 60' time.

Couldn't agree more and the amount of runs I've done with Fab's Gtech and the Performance Box (GPS) side by side has proven only one thing to me. They're inconstant devices!

I've seen them near identical, 0.2sec diff or even upto .6sec diff. Flat road, slight up hill or down hill, the differences aren't even consistent between road type. I almost farken give up trying but I'm a stubborn ****!

Effectively, Gtech at its maximum descrepency is 2/tenths off.
